Trump’s China Tariffs: A Misplaced Strategy for the US Economy

Instead of imposing additional tariffs, which will hurt the Chinese and U.S. economies, the U.S. should have its own research and development strategy, says Richard Vague, author of The Next Economic Disaster

  1. America have been collecting Data since Telephone was invented.
America the Robber shouting at the thief China.
    They eardrops CIA/FBI, Friends,Allies……Even the President.Haha.
Sold F35/ Missiles sent Data back to America.

  2. I 100% blame US corporate leaders. They knew they were transferring technology US taxpayers funded, and didn't care, because they cared only about lining their own pockets. Now they refuse to pay the taxes that fund the research, and hide profits in tax havens. Even given the Chinese theft of IP, the overwhelming fault is with our own greedheads.

  3. China will win the trade war because USA sealed our fate during the Clinton administration. Our entire manufacturing base is depleted, because we don’t make products from scratch anymore. Parts are shipped to use (mostly from China , or by their entities) and we assemble them here. Meaning, we still have to buy the parts for a large percentage of materials we then produce. That being said, we have to find supply chains that aren’t effected by China. Unfortunately, since China has begun their “ Silk Road” re-enactment we may discover that it will be difficult to procure alternatives (i.e. Vietnam, Malaysia, etc.) Additionally, China has an infrastructure that supports the mass production of products that doesn’t exist in any of the for mentioned alternative nations. Therefore, we will be forced to pay 25% tariffs possibly for everything that comes from China, for the foreseeable future. Hopefully cooler heads prevail, but the party might just be over. Welcome to the 21st century.

  4. Both guys have no clue what they are talking about. Chinese income per capita stands at #73 although it has big potential with its huge population and good infrastructure. They are trying to increase their home consumption but they can only get that far. On the other hand, both Europe and US need new markets. US having a trade war with China is a lose lose situation.

  5. The problem with.US is they are so focussed on others wanting to forge ahead and is not able to focus on themselves to do well. Tell me which country does not want to be an economic power house?

  6. I read a great deal of international business and economics news, and that analysis by Richard Vague was very good. His point about R&D has been an issue of mine for decades. We used to really emphasize it. We used to give major tax breaks exactly for it. Ever since we stopped, we've been sliding down.

  7. These old heads want pocket everything that exists in this country.
Research is paid for through tax dollars and politicians allows them monopoly advance.
Like they are going to wait for our technology to catch up.
    We get fake 5gE 🤔

  8. The Chinese owe their success to focusing on products which people around the world want – and most especially NOT "new and improved" products designed for the horrific killing and destruction via criminal wars of innocent fellow members of the human family.

  9. The information requested on U.S. by China is no different than the information requested on Chinese products by gov't agencies like the FDA. Worked for a company that sold to and traded China. They too have product safety agencies. That involves transfer of technology on both sides.

I doubt very much if China makes advances with the U.S. in mind. I doubt if they worry about being better or less than America. That's an America keeping up with the Jones thing.

How does selling your own products to your own people increase income? It just moves around internal monies.

  10. And Apple has refused to pay any taxes or could give any Commission to the US government for all this research that was paid for by the taxpayers, those taxpayers obviously excluding Apple itself and major shareholders of Apple which include a Saudi Arabian.

At least the Chinese corporations are paying taxes back to their governments as well as spending much of their profits on state driven research and education

  11. Countries have always stolen new technologies from each other. But we have a president who is not only a bully but also crisis driven. Bad publicity always calls for another crisis, i.e. tariffs, Iran, etc.. Being a bully may have worked for Trump in the past but it is doubtful that this tactic will always work globally. How about investing massively in R&D instead of making a few even richer and quit making enemies left and right. Having the largest military will not keep the country safe, nor keep it from falling further and further behind.

  12. I think that the high GDP and low unemployment levels are all “Trump’s 2020 election hype”, anybody with a calculator can move figures up or down. Anybody out there that just come into new wealth and a fancy new job?
Also, where are the new training programs for all those so-called new jobs?????

  13. America & Asia are trading places. Intelligent, innovative, cultured young people are moving East. ie. Japan, Singapore. America is trying to hold on to past glory. Nothing America can do to stop human progress. Asia is already trading amongst themselves. Asia does not need America.

  14. Nobody told these company's to move to china, why would you not think that china would not want something in return for giving them cheap labor,a place to build there company's,transportation of the goods, all comes at a price.
