A number of parents of Black children slain by police, including the mothers of Tamir Rice and Richard Risher, have accused the Black Lives Matter Global Network and certain BLM leaders of raising money from their children’s deaths without distributing that money to victims’ families. In this episode of “Rattling the Bars,” TRNN Executive Producer Eddie Conway discusses these allegations with Lisa Simpson, the mother of Richard Risher. Risher was killed by LAPD officers in 2016.

Any time a community group starts raising money there has to be 100% financial transparency from the get go or some people will start grifting…. it's just human nature and only the most principled people can resist the temptation when there's little or no accountability. I just listened to Cat Brooks giving Melina Abdullah a platform to spin her side of this story and it was disgraceful and sure enough APTP has been raising alot of money too but has absolutely no transparency about how much and what for. hmmmm….. Can't let this bullshit derail the movement to end state violence and the prison industrail complex and to put our public funds at the service of community health and well being.

This just hurts my heart. As a mother who has lost a son, my heart aches to hear this mother having to deal with all of this crap while grieving for her son. This isn’t right. Someone needs to step in and help this woman.
LULAC did the same thing to my wife when her (Latino) son was killed in 2012.
When one is vulnerable and abused by the police folks feel so alone they'll take help from anyplace. We need a grassroots honest legal organization to deal with this problem. When it gets political and money starts flowing the larceny gets thick. The fight for justice should be free from self-serving opportunism.
