President Maduro is introducing a series of deep economic reforms, to put an end to hyperinflation and to re-start the economy. But this can only happen if faith is restored in the currency and if US financial sanctions come to an end, says CEPR’s Mark Weisbrot

  1. So, the "opposition" doesnt talk about the humanitarian help the red cross distributed without the "help" of the USA?? How convenient

  2. It hasn't stopped hyperinflation. The value of the Bolivar is controlled by the DolarToday Web page which is run by Gustavo Diaz in Alabama, USA. Gustavo Diaz was involved in the 2002 coup against Hugo Chavez. He fled to the United States afterwards where he now works in a Home Depot Store. More than 90 percent of businesses are PRIVATELY owned in Venezuela. These businesses are owned by the 2% of right wing opposition supporters who are funded by the USA and ALL follow the DolarToday Web page. Every morning the people wake up to check out the value of the Bolivar against the US Dollar and the Euro according to Gustavo Diaz. The owners of the companies in Venezuela all hike their prices according to the DolarToday Web page. It really is as simple as that.

  3. the Regime Stole, always had !
one of Chavez's daughters personal "fortune" is over 2billions US$
The Regime's had paid Billions to Cuba The creation of PetroCaribe was to have the "Caribbean Islands" support at the useless "bureaucratic Organizations" OAS / UN etc There is a Genocide going on in My beloved homeland, but the "bureaucratic Organizations" solutions is to have "Refugees' Camps"….hahaha Of Course these Camps are Great Busines$$$$ for the supplier$$$ and the other partie$$$ involved

  4. King Canute could not order the tide to go back. The dictator Maduro can't suspend the law of supply and demand. Regardless of whatever currency he establishes, if he continues to print and bastardize the currency hyperinflation will continue its destruction of the economy.

  5. You Kenisians drive me bonkers! YES, we had inflation over the last 10 yrs. Have you been to the grocery store since 2008? Raising the minimum will just devalue even further. Idiot!!

  6. I am pleased I do not live there.
    I love my freedom.
I know they loved Chavez, but he had no economic sense.
He destroyed the means of production.
    Freedom means fiscal self restraint.
That is totally missing in Nick Maduro.
But they still love their socialism.
    Borrow from Russia and China.
    They are good for it.

  7. I think making a basket of oil, gold, and silver…things that are hard to manipulate.
The USA is crushing the crap out of Turkish Lira because they are not behaving…. The US isn't able to control the price of gold, silver and oil. I think this is a better way to go until things stablize

  8. just like a disease will never stop if only the symptoms are address, those programs will just give them a very short relieve…that country is just being destroyed by their leaders incompetency!

  9. This is hilarious! They have massive oil reserves yet the people are impoverished! Venezuela's history has been a mess since its conception. Total corruption at its highest level. Americans would rise up and destroy this government! Thats what you get when the citizens have no weapons to overthrow a corrupt government… thank God for our Constitution and the 2nd Amendment!

  10. Hyperinflation will never go away until output is increased. You have to much money chasing to few good. Oil out halved since 2014.

  11. Petro is nothing more than kicking the can down the road farther.
Oil is about to be replaced by hemp and then what?
When there is blood on the streets that is the best time to buy land.
Get caught up in all the bs and you will be washed away with the flood (collapse).

  12. arent the Americans noble,decent,fair and caring,Iraq,evil dictator,we must regime change,Libya,Ditto! Iran soon,Syria soon,Venezuela very soon,whats the link? I wonder

  13. IT is not that complicated. The government nationalized the majority of industries. No one is going to create business if they know that the government will come in take it over. Not rocket science. Value of the currency is based on production, what you can actually buy in that country with that currency. Gimmicks wont work.

  14. If only half the money that was stolen by hugo Chavez, Maduro, cabello, assami, and the rest of the thieves stole, Venezuela would not have these problems. Chavez was a Marxist and a thief. peace
