I haven't seen anyone comment on this fact: Trump used to call for his "people" to come out and, presumably, make trouble during his indictments and other events when he could see that consequences were in his future. He's stopped doing that now. Why? Because his fans no longer come when he calls them. Too humiliating. But he knows that some people definitely came out one time, on January 6, and they're in jail now. He needs those people! They were willing to murder others and go to jail for him. He needs those people out of jail and leading his mobs to continue to make trouble for him, whether he is in office or not. This is Trump at his transactional best. He needs people willing to kill and go to prison for him, and those people are in jail now. Even if he doesn't make it back into the presidency, the fact that he has promised to pardon them, whether he's able to do that or not, will cause them to continue to be loyal to him, or so he thinks. Saying he will pardon them is a pretty cheap investment in their loyalty if he doesn't make it back into office, and if he can pardon them, maybe that's a pretty cheap investment in a large gang of murderous thugs at his call. Sometimes he's crazy like a fox. Other times he's just demented, mentally ill, poorly educated and not very bright.
