State laws work to fight pay gaps, create transparency

A new crop of state laws are attempting to reduce pay gaps and increase salary transparency. It’s the 50th anniversary of the Federal Equal Pay Law, and yet full pay equity doesn’t exist. Barry Peterson has more from Denver, Colorado.

  1. They work less. They choose lower paying jobs. They ask for raises less. None of this is real.

  2. How many times do we have to debunk the gender pay gap for you? Women choose jobs that pay less, so they get paid less. That is not men's fault

  3. That will always be the case. This is for selected jobs only. If a woman can't do the job, without special compromises then she doesn't get the pay. A sit down job is different.
Like lawyers and Realtor then yes, if you are worth the money, you get the money.
Negotiations about pay, is during the day one interview. That way you know if you are wasting everyone's time. But time off for childbirth then all bets are off.

  4. Speaking up to supervisors about this and other inequalities (like how long the men took breaks compared to the women) has gotten me pushed out of four jobs. Given intolerable conditions in scheduling and harassment from the lazy coworkers while supervisors looked the other way.
Women not asking for raises is NOT the main problem here. It’s a good way to begin losing your job in some lines of work. Of course we need state investigations. It’s not a mystery after this many years. It’s a financial crime

  5. So the reason why this is happening because woman are too weak to ask for a raise? Cmon, there has to be a better explanation for this. I've been on the fence about this debunked gender wage gap and this is not convincing at all. Maybe if we could had seen that female supervisor or hear more of what that corporate guy said.

  6. How about government workers get laid off every 3 years like the taxpayers do? And the laid off government workers can never work at a taxpayer funded job for the rest of their life.

  7. You could do the same report about a man working at a company where he is paid less than a woman doing the same work or in a lesser position. The wage gap between men and women is mostly based on the overall career choices of the two groups.

  8. True economic "pay gaps" will go away simply by the greed of the employers. What should a company pay more for a man to do a job a woman can do.

The fact that women fall for this nonsense is "revealing."

  9. In a time we hire people according to skin color or ethnicity i dont wanna hear about equal pay…FIX ONE THING WHILE DESTROYING ANOTHER THING.. Your argument is pretty ignorant here

  10. Now is the right time for Unions to make a comeback after bad Republican rhetoric against them.Equal work for equal pay, equals Unions as this is part of their agenda.Go Union Strong.UFCW Local7.

  11. They’re citing a law created when computers weren’t a thing and the internet wasn’t a thing. Computers do all of our thinking now. The workforce only needs one thing: muscle.

  12. There will never be Transparency the way people want it….. Some one will always hold back to be in control…..😮 just my opinion….
