State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller held a press briefing amid escalating fighting between Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian militant group that controls Gaza. At least 14 U.S. citizens were among those killed in Hamas’ attack on Israel Saturday and Americans are among the hostages being held by Hamas, President Biden said Tuesday. Miller said Secretary of State Antony Blinken is scheduled to arrive in Israel on Thursday for direct talks with Israeli partners.
