Republican lawmakers react to McCarthy’s ouster as House speaker

Three Republican lawmakers — two who voted against Kevin McCarthy’s ouster as House speaker and one who joined the 208 House Democrats to vote for it — spoke with CBS News on Wednesday about the historic roll call. Though McCarthy had the support of most House Republicans, there were enough opponents within his party to cost him the speakership.

  1. One person can bring it to the floor. But one person can’t oust the speaker. He was voted out. It’s not a stupid rule. It was always the rule. Nancy Pelosi changed it. The republicans just put it back in place.

  2. >8 Republicans get together to oust McCarthy
    >McCarthy is voted out and the house grinds to a stop
    >How could the Democrats do this?!

  3. They should really be saying that the Democrats unanimously joined the 8 Republicans who moved to oust the Speaker. That’s what really happened. Plus, McCarthy should own his mistakes. He trashed Democrats in the media after they saved him from a government shutdown, so they showed him the power of their voting bloc and how he can’t live without it (literally). C’est la vie.

  4. It’s the fact that they can’t be honest about ANYTHING. Nobody cares about Matt gaetz and the rest of them and there’s no colluding between him and the democrats. Kevin McCarthy was just a horrible speaker and a liar.

  5. I don't get the Republicans they keep on blaming the Democrats but is clear that Trump and his Maga fool are the problem

  6. The “joined with democrats” seems have been passed around the house republicans as the main talking point. They are all saying it verbatim. 😂

  7. The initiative resulted from ex speaker McCarthy nearly always getting votes of democrats in nearly every issue to get the job done. Congress Matt Gaetz (Pronounced GATES) says everyone need to get back to work. The beautiful wall on the border with with Mexico needs to be built soon, some say.

  8. That's correct, Democrats can't spend anymore money when there's a halt, Gaetz is totally correct what he's trying to do not sure he can pull it off though in that corrupt town

  9. Wait – they are Biden's 8 favorite Republicans? The ones who keep saying he's corrupt, and should be impeached? The same ones who have been going after his son for over the last year and half?
