Oxford Study: Political Data Mining Companies are Manipulating Elections Around the World

An extensive new Oxford University study shows that governments, political parties, and NGOs spend well over half a billion dollars around the world to influence elections and public opinion, most of it in a completely unregulated and secretive manner. We speak to the study’s co-author, Samantha Bradshaw

  1. Here's a perfect example of fake news, all the pundits claiming that Clinton was the establishment's anointed candidate.

Even in hindsight, most people still haven't asked themselves, "Does the establishment controlled media really give billions worth of free air time to a fake outsider?"

Another key question, "Would the duopoly spend all that money getting fraud friendly electronic voting machines installed, only to let voters deccide the outcome?"

  2. I get the impression these people think there was a time when people voted solely based on facts. Garbage! Complete garbage. I recall reading an Irish traveler's journey through America in the 1830's. In New Jersey, he stayed at a tavern on election day. The candidates paid tavern owners to give away free beer and whiskey to their voters and made sure their voters got to the taverns they sponsored. Afterwards, they got their voters to the polls. The candidate with the most cash to slosh around got elected. That is democracy in real life; not some ideological crap that these two ladies seem to believe in.

  3. "Organic" is a nice term, and it certainly is useful at the bottom; but, even TRNN isn't organic. The issue is the term "junk." Who decides? Is the "Russia, Russia, Russia" narrative junk or not? I say it is. I say I know it is based upon the most organic information on the subject I can obtain.

Meanwhile, Facebook and the like are being forced to, and want to, "save" us from that knowledge because "Russia, Russia, Russia."

BTW, PropOrNot didn't list TRNN, did they? TRNN is still too marginalized to be marginalized in a way that makes national news.

TRNN needs to hire a top publicist so it can then be notoriously marginalized: so it can join the club.

  4. Advertising techniques now being used in politics? You mean like since the beginning of politics? Jeez. This is horrible. Run stuff by Paul Jay before doing a segment like this.

  5. This is the worst piece I’ve seen on TRN. Is this info effective? No. This girl being interviewed is pathetic. Smells like a bullshit story.

  6. Cambridga Analytica has become the scapegoat to all the similar efforts by the U.S. goverment and its propagating of their extremist ideology of free markets, alongside all the corporations and the unaccountable private PR firms who do propaganda for example on dirty energy, they were bombarding the No-DAPL sites with bs notions of clean gas and …! This is complete nonsense and infantilization of the populace! Funny how she actually doesn't have anything to say about the meddling campaign the U.S. launched in Germany via Cambridge Analytica to hand the election to the NeoFascist AFD, as Chomsky just mentioned! This was complete bullshit!

  7. The establishment is angry because they can no longer control the narrative. And only idiots would belief the Russians caused the election outcome. Such bullshit. People are angry and fed up by a corrupt government for the elites.

  8. You might have been born on the internet but older people were the ones who voted for the national harm that is Brexit . Those older people were on Facebook and they did not understand that they were being mercilessly propagandised by the richest people in our society!!! The entire referendum was undemocratic and ILLEGAL because it was AWASH WITH AMERICAN BILLIONAIRE MONEY AND DATA security thefts.

  9. Saying that people are "vulnerable" to social media campaigns is just another way of calling voters "deplorables." Voters are adults capable of making up their own minds. To discredit and insult them is to discredit the whole idea of democracy.
