13. The idea surrounding Democrats moving to support a Republican Speaker, came from people who aren't partisan's. Who occupies the Speakership, or which party occupies the Speakership was irrelevant. It wasn't about personality. The idea came from individuals who think Partisanship is the fundamental problem in DC.
    People who are genuinely tired of toxic partisanship, made arguments for such an act because it was a point in time when both sides could extend an olive branch. It was easy to see as a potential opportunity. Which both sides gleefully and predictably careened past. Yet, all sides had something to gain. Republicans could have retained overall control, while annexing there most volatile members (instead of caving to them). Democrats could have kept a Speaker who they know and can predict (trust is irrelevant) while also marginalizing the extreme members of the freedom caucus, and pushed for far more bipartisan agreements. And the American people would have had a more functional Congress. Which instead is now in limbo, paralyzed, and locked in a partisan war seemingly without end.

    That option also illustrated that it is in fact two parties holding the wheel, both equally invested in maintaining partisan power over the best interests of Country (contrary to the words each party spouts). The situation we're in now was avoidable if those 8 Republicans were not joined by 208 Democrats. Which is the real lesson and take away. Republican's and Democrats champion different policy, but there tactics and behavior in terms of how they interact with the other party, is largely the same. Democrats are no better than Republicans, they just better organized at this time. The two parties are fundamentally mirrors of each other in regards to their investment into partisanship. It's why Congress is so deeply entrenched. Neither side wants to be the first to put down the sword, they simply don't trust the other side enough to consider the possibility.

    Congress and today's political parties play a zero-sum game with there own country, there own citizens. Which is inheriently destructive to this Nation regardless of the winner.
