Live: Strikes at Medieval Times, Temple University, & more

In this special worker solidarity livestream recorded on February 15, TRNN Editor-in-Chief Maximillian Alvarez spoke with workers involved in the ongoing unionization struggles and strikes at Warrior Met Coal, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Medieval Times, Temple University, and Hastings Schools food service, including Haeden Wright, president of UMWA Auxiliary Locals 2368 and 2245; Bob Batz Jr., interim editor at Pittsburgh Union Progress; Erin Zapcic, union steward for Medieval Times Performers United Buena Park; Austin Martin with the Temple University Graduate Students’ Association (TUGSA); and Laurie Potthoff, a cook at Hastings High School in Minnesota.

2022 was a year of intense labor struggle, and that struggle has very much carried over into 2023. If we want to see the labor movement grow, we need to be there for workers when it counts the most, and we need to do whatever we can to make sure they win their fights.

  1. Dang, Max. You're breakin' my heart in a good way here. <3 Eddie, thanks for being a light in this crazy world.

  2. Rip 🙏 Mr. Conway, many condolences to his family and friends and all those that loved him. We thank him for his example.
    🙏❤️ STRIKERS, stay united.

  3. College is a privilege not a right. We need to fix public education before worrying about something that is a choice. If you don'tike the pay use your power to boycott. All your doing is driving the cost up and that doesn't benefit the students. Pin your pay to the top by a percentage so no one gets left behind.

  4. I'll start supporting worker strikes when the workers are interested in the politics outside of their own lives. If you only come out when your personal American fantasy is threatened you are no better than elites who only care about themselves too. If you think coming out to vote a Democrat or republican into office every few years is being political you know absolutely nothing. Until there are wider coalitions whove banned together this is all just selfish-striking and I dont care if they get what they need or are replaced by scabs. Be a Leftist and I'll support you.

  5. That's wonderful… So, what will you tell those workers when automation and mass mechanization upend their livelihoods?
You know, similar to how offshoring destroyed the lives of factory workers decades ago. You guys have no idea what the corporations are capable of.
