Some airports now offering visitor passes

Several airports across the country are launching visitor pass programs that allow people to pass through security checkpoints without a plane ticket. The programs give non-flyers a chance to explore an airport’s restaurants and shops or say goodbye to loved ones at the gate. Wall Street Journal reporter Jacob Passy joined CBS News to discuss the programs.

  1. Oh yes, the commercial airport has been the perfect normalization of the police state system. There is now a whole young adult generation walking around unaware flying used to be a fun, chill activity and airports weren't police states. If only these idiots knew how well government class and wealthy in private airports travel-maybe they would have the good sense to boycott flying until it became palatable again. So far the only thing that has stopped is airliners dragging paying customers off of airplanes after selling out space from under them. Frankly I think Americans could expect a little more: like actual storage and toiletries that aren't only 3-ounces. I'd settle for decent seating in coach.

  2. I can see this being helpful for disabled travelers and loved ones and families who want to see loved ones off. But if you're just there to poke around the airport, You might as well take advantage of the shops and restaurants while watching the planes take off. I get it. Back in the day before 9/11 happened, you could see you loved ones off and welcome them home without a visitor pass. Obviously in the 90s airport security was very lenient.

  3. Fix the horrendous problems first….not more ppl….🙄 Greed at its finest!

  4. Waste of time.. parking still too expensive to fo through the drama.. especially the smaller airports .total nogo for big ones

  5. Please don't do this.
I understand, it's capitalism at its finest but It's a compromise of an airport's integrity and security. There are enough eateries and shopping opportunities just outside of airports old and new alike.
Families and friends can peruse, shop, park and eat together before entering the security of an airport or after departing the airport.
I, personally, enjoy the time of onboarding, off boarding with fellow air travellers.
My other concern: Who is the approving authority of who makes it into the airport with this *Daypass*?
More and more airports carry high-end, high value products and services.
Is there going to be any questioning of who gets in to shop? How long? How much? There are a lot of ambiguities that need to be established before I would even consider this a workable idea.

  6. Really. How much extra revenue are we talking about at Orlando, allowing 15 people a day? A Starbucks inside might be lucky to get one extra customer. This is the way it was before 9/11. I see nothing wrong with it, as everyone still needs to go through the same screening. Actually, you've been able to do this all along, if you were willing to jump through some hoops. Buy a fully-refundable ticket that can be cancelled for any reason, including the day of the flight. Use that to go through security, then apply for your refund once past security (you should be able to do that from your smart phone).

  7. wow all of the stress of airports and flying without actually having to fly. these shills could sell anything if you paid them enough.

  8. They just want more people to spend money in crappy airport malls. Really this is what is important to these people not fixing delay problems
