The House of Representatives is in session on Tuesday as lawmakers try to elect a new speaker two weeks after ousting Rep. Kevin McCarthy from the role. Rep. Jim Jordan failed to win a majority on the first ballot, sending the lower chamber back for more rounds of voting to elect a permanent leader. House Republicans on Friday selected Jordan as their second nominee for speaker after Majority Leader Steve Scalise withdrew his candidacy. Jordan needs to secure 217 votes to become the next speaker.
