The Truth About Franco | Spain’s Forgotten Dictatorship

Historians look back on Francisco Franco’s path to power in Spain.

Insights into his coming of age from a young, inexperienced soldier to a rapid ascent in the Spanish military, ultimately reaching the pinnacle as a dictator. Through his ruthless operations during the unrest in Asturias, he becomes known as an unabashed general. From the shadows, he, along with other conspirators, plans the downfall of the Spanish Republic, and with the support of German and Italian fascist allies, he succeeds in seizing power in 1939. However, Franco’s personal triumph is not without losses, as thousands lose their lives in a multi-year civil war in Spain.
