  1. 👍👍👍👍👍 great job and good info's. Great Auto Mechanics.

whoever was the mechanic or even the DIY job did not do a goob job.

    Thumbs up for both you👍👍👍❤❤

  2. Was it just coils and/or spark plugs? I did not want to spend 26 mins if it was just that. More looking for scoping or some advanced diagnosis.

  3. The classic "pull out coil and listen to change in idling" trick plus multimeter test didn't work and is not enough. coz at least in my case, the revs were smooth and idling perfect (OBD2 didn't detect any faults coz it's a 2003 honda) but with load on acceleration, somehow occasionally misfires. so it can mislead one to think it's a fuel issue or trany issue, so I chased a ghost down the rabbit hole, changed fuel pump, nada, cleaned out injectors, nada. And the worst thing, I brought down to clean and inspect the transmission valve body, a valve body overhaul .. Embarassingly amateur., in the end, it was a basic ignition coil issue which I "inspected to be ok". that's the problem when a 4 cylinder car has 8 plugs and coils. with the older Hondas, till 2013ish, a multimeter and classic test is not enough. spark leakage through the tube/boot can occur even if there are no visible cracks or hardening or whitish spark jump scarring. and with some models, there are repair kits are available, just the tube, so you don't have to replace the coil itself. unless they are really old. I figured it out from a Filipino mechanic's you tube channel, he tests coils directly using his method of clamping a jumper cable to ground, and the opposite clamp holds a solid copper wire coiled. with the ignition coil out of engine but terminals reattached and engine running, he places that grounded copper wire very close, like a millimeter to the tube of the coil and moves it around to check for spark leaks.

  4. Learned so much from you two. Very enjoyable watching you two working together! Wish i hadn't ordered after market ignition coils. My son put one in my granddaughters 2002 Lexus it seems to be doing fine. Worried about fuel injectors now. I noticed shaking before misfire. Lack of fuel pressure makes sense to cause misfire. I never would have thought of that.

  5. Eric, you make duagnosing these “misfires” look simple!… I have a 1997 Opel Tigra 1.4 16valve DOHC X14XE … that has a mysterious misfire. I am battling to diagnose the real issue. I have taken a compression test (which affine),changed plugs, leads, coil pack, airflow sensors, and ECU… and fuel pump, but still no luck?… can u possibly suggest a possible diagnosis?… I know it is difficult when the care is not in your own workshop?… please help.Im based in South Africa and have imported the vehicle in2003. The engine was totally revamped with all new pistons, crank, bearings, etc approx 3 years ago

  6. Hi Erick, love your videos i learned a lot thanks, but i have a problem, i got a 1996 lexus es 300 v6
My friend told me that it got overheated and she turned off, for several months, i got it and it started no problem, then when i hit the gas it chokes or it sounds like it, i put the code reader and it was the throttle position sensor code, so i replace it, and nothing, clear the codes and again the same problem, put the code reader and now its code p0100 air mass flow sensor, i unplugged the connector and it was green, water so i got an used one, clean the connector, try it again and the same thing, oh i forgot to mention that i changed the fuel filter as well, one think that i just noticed is that in the engine , both head gaskets are leaking all around, I checked the bolts and it's tight all around.
If you have an idea what could be, let me know, regardless of the answer, thanks for the teaching i learned a lot ( and still do), thanks,
    Guillermo S.

  7. Hey Eric. I wanna say that I really appreciate this video. I been having trouble with my 2012 Honda CR-V engine. It has been misfiring (P0302) and losing oil. I just got all spark plugs, seals and gaskets replaced. However i didnt get my oil sump seal replaced; i will do that the next time I get my oil changed. There was oil going into the 2nd cylinder. I was told that all of the coils and fuel injectors were working. So far so good. Hopefully this ends the problem.

Also, I hope things are starting to work out for you with finding another shop. Much love brother.

  8. Hey Eric really good video and good banter with Sue.. I guess I need to research a little more on DIS firing .. great video.. and great tech tip on plug gapping.. it’s no longer necessary with modern technology iridium plugs

  9. loved this video. I'm currently experiencing misfires in my 2012 VW Tiguan and your diagnostic approach was extremely helpful to my understanding of what might be happening as my spark plugs were changed less than 2000 miles ago.

  10. If I have a car with Plug Wires, with a miss or rough running I always try to watch while the engine is running (in the dark) and often see blue sparks. Bad wires, maybe bad plugs but wires bad

  11. Sue u are so knowledgeable and I love to see woman doing this kind of work, it’s inspiring for me, I love that u guys working together to create great videos

  12. Hey Eric, I have problem with my engine, maybe you can help me to find what's wrong with it. I have strange knocking sound under load or very light load, on very light load it's hardly noticeable, but when foot kicks the pedal I hear loud knocking on certain rpm, under 3k, after that and up this knock disappears. It happens from 3rd to 6 st gear. If you could help me, or just any thoughts from you I could send you the sound I recorded. How I can reach you? Facebook or Instagram or whatever, please respond 😊

  13. Great Video for the DIYer. I know most people don't have a lab scope. As a pro, I would scope the Secondary Ignition and look at the wave form. You will have Low KV around 5 or 6 with low compression or high KV 15 or higher, with compression. You can also see if the coil has and open, short, or the spark is leaking before it gets to the plug. You can also see if it has a lean misfire to tell if the injector is working. If I saw low compression I would verify it with a relative compression test and then finally a real compression test. Learning how to read secondary ignition or even primary ignition is a huge time saver on these.of
