This video covers the top end assembly of a small block Chevy for #ETCGDadsTruck. I also cover the installation of the oil pump, pick up tube, and oil pan in this video.
There will also be additional “shorter” videos of #DT383 taken from this video which will cover specific parts of the build.

What year of block is this? I’ve got a 87-95 block and wondering if I can use the strap style roller lifter rather the the spider assembly
Thank you for your video 😅
Hey can I give me the part number for the oil pan and will it work for a four wheel drive tbi350
Back in the day very few engines had a windage tray. A couple of the old Mopar engines from late 60's & early 70's had one, but they weren't put on engines back in the day😆
Do the motor mount shackles have a spacer plate behind them between the block? I have a 95 k1500 that I took a non original engine out and there was a metal spacer on each motor mount shell. Are they needed?
I have watched this 100 times and still learn more
Another great video.
This man puts so much love into a rebuild
I too found 1 turn on lifters to work best. 3/8 x 24 is around 40 thou. per full turn, which is good preload. Half turn gives you the minimum, and will get noisy when the engine gets heat. I quit using half turn a long time ago.
I'm just curious why he used a cam button on a block designed for a roller cam 🤔
love the super trooper phase
Or just get a $20 harmonic balancer installation tool
Looks very nice, tons of great quality good finish looking parts, I like it. Not a chevy boy but that looks good
44:10 Super Trooper reference LOL
two tips. Throw the oil pickup into the freezer for an hour. I was able to twist mine in by hand after. second one is the reason the good set of intake gaskets didn't come with the end pieces is because they almost always leak after a short time on a chevy small block so most just run a small bead of RTV across rather than use the premade gaskets.
Oh…lastly…your ring compressor was great…I thought it was that antique Allen wrench crank it tight style…ooooh…didnt like those at all…hassle city…ok…your kewl…lol
Howdy…All engines…from lawn mower to Honda to SBC to Ford FE…I HAVE USED GASKACINCH…IT NEVER HAS FAILED OR LEAKED 1 DROP…REMOVAL IS SO CAKE…RUBBER CEMENT LIKE STUFF…HEAT PROOF…HOLDS ALL GASKETS(NO RTV…hisssss) WHERE YOU PLACE THEM…LOVELY STUFF…NO GLOP OVER SPILL FOR CRAP INSIDE ENGINE…EVER…LOVE IT…
dont forget gasket thickness will push front cover however thickness is the gasket is for the trimming cover
so the gasket thickness was not taken in account.
Eric; there’s a special tool for this.
Also Eric; ima try this. 😂😂😂
Largo video pero muy bueno exelente trabajo Gracias Eric
So meticulously checked all the clearances in double checked and triple checked but never saw you check piston to valve clearance I know no dome tops but still God I love the engine though awesome!!
Yes good advice put the balancer in and oven and also I purchased the installer from summit works very nicely
Dude I have those rockers lol You rock
Would love to see Dino numbers with those heads I'm running the Edelbrock CNC355 heads on my 492 stroker almost went with AFR
Windage tray,,I think you're fine especially for the horsepower you're going to make, my method for installing pickup tube,,, crescent wrench with two rags over the end tap on crescent wrench with your red hammer., Or any other way you can get it in there lol 😆
I guess the better cam button may have been worth it or you can also install aluminum cover no flex that way in the cover either way great job Love your videos
No valvetrain geometry? Roller tip centered on valve stem?
I like Freshly machined surfaces and tourqe wrenches that don't make my dog go nuts lol
Maybe call it …ole slugger. ..looked like you was in a home run Derby with that balancer. Your vids are awesome man thanks for showing us all this great stuff !!
I go 1/8th turn on race car and 1/4 turn daily and do the book set like #1 adjust then #6 adjust
use the white pipe sealant on the head bolts
I didn't see you grind off the top of the front oil galley plugs for clearance for the double roller cam gear.
You know that block is (MADE FOR) a special locking plate that locks the cam in perfect right?!?
Going to a "CAM BUTTON" designed for cams other than "ROLLERS" is a BAD IDEA!!
Link for cam locking plate…
