How to replace a Blower Motor Resistor

How to fix a fan that doesn’t work on low. If your interior AC/ Heat fan is not working on low, or one of the fan settings isnt working, then you probably need to replace the blower motor resistor. This video will go though all of the steps and give you some helpful tips and tricks! I also show the blower motor resistor wiring diagram in case you need to put a new pigtail on the resistor (like I did because it melted).

  1. In the beginning,The Vehicle you’re working on would be helpful. Now all i need to do is another search because I have all the time in the world to find a video that is willing to show me the location of resister on a Toyota Sequoia 2002. Im curious do all your videos start like this, you just randomly start working on a car closest to you not sharing what make and models under your wrench. Can’t really say this was helpful already new most of what you rambled about just looking for its location .

  2. hello, Im seeking help about a weird issue with my rav 4 toyota 2008. The AC went off completely along with the turning lights. The turning lights do work when I activate emergency signal. I took it to the mechanic and they replaced a fuse and also tinker a bit with the blower motor. again, the same problem happend while driving. What is going on?

  3. Thanks. What happens if the blow will run at the setting you set but then after 10 seconds it slows down to low or medium and will not speed back up again? It will slow down below, 3 for example but won't go up. It goes to 7 speed, but after the first 10 seconds it slows and won't go above 3, even though the computer screen is showing 7 speed.

  4. if u ever need to take a pigtail off that u are replacing both ends to, pour warm to mildly hot water on the connector if it has corrosion, the warm water washes it away quick.

  5. Awesome job at Describing how it works especially the wiring I need to know how the wiring goes you showed me everything I needed to know thank you very much!

  6. Question: My 1994 Mazda b4000 SE 4wd ac will freeze you out of the vehicle on little trips around town but if I go 30 minutes or more it barely puffs out of all the vents. My blower motor is working on all 4 positions but there is very little air coming out of the vents no matter if it's on max, defrost, panel, floor and panel, etc. I thought there might be trash blocking the vents but #1 there isn't a cabin filter and #2 I read that there is a screen mesh under the cowl vents to prevent trash from getting near the blower. Thoughts??

  7. The vent that blows face/feet does not work, it only works when you put the chest setting would that be a resistor issue or something else there is no clicking noise just that setting that is giving issues, will it cause issues if not fixed or could it be a door or clogged issues

    Dear Chris,
Thank you for your videos. I love your work. I tried removing my blower motor resistor from the pigtail but it would not budge. Since then I saw how people have—just like you—cut the pigtail wires and then installed all new wires and resistor. (I will probably do that even though I've never soldered or worked on auto wiring.) BUT, would it be safe to spray WD-40 into the tiny voids where the pigtail connects to the resistor? I've ordered sprays you've recommended but don't have them yet. Would it be okay to use WD-40 as a penetrant spray to loosen the connection? I am not loyal to WD-40 and do not use it generally, but it's all the homeowner has at the moment. And btw, I did look up many websites to get answers to what is safe for WD-40 but didn't find specifics for this application. I know there will be more pigtails stuck to parts I'll need to replace (2002 Chev Silv).

  9. Chris — your videos are excellent but why the hell do you have so many problems with your cars that need to be worked on? Stick w a manual Honda or Toyota and change your oil regularly. I have a Honda that’s 16 years old. Never flushed the brake fluid, changed the pads, flushed power steering fluid or flushed the coolant. Everything is still doing fine

  10. I replaced the resistor but I still have the same problem. When I turn the car on, even when the fan speed is set to 0, the fan just runs at full speed. Could it be a problem with the switch? How would I diagnose where the problem is coming from?

  11. I'm color blind. I have a 93 Mercury cougar xr7 WITH automatic climate control. I'm having to rewire the auto resistor for the blower motor and the new pigtail has all white wires. Hints to why I'm asking for help. When I got the car someone had cut the old pigtail wires off to try to put an analog resistor on the car but the climate controls in the cabin only work with auto climate resistor. Could anyone tell me which wire goes to which for the pigtail from the wiring harness? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

  12. Great video! I just replaced the original resistor and wiring connector on my 2001 Ranger. As others have mentioned, the 4 splicing connectors supplied with the kit are also heat shrink so I did that after crimping and then added electrical tape. Works like it should now, thanks so much Chris! 👍

  13. As always Chris great video really appreciate the way you explain things an actually physically show how and where things are. Believe that's what's wrong with my blower on 01 ranger. Thanks for sharing be safe have fun
