I Learned How to SMOOTHLY Land a Helicopter With NO ENGINE!!! This is INSANE!!

First of all a HUUUUUUUGE thank you to @mdhelicopters6457 for making this collaboration possible. Myself, HeavyD, Roman Atwood, and Teeth and Turbos spent a week in Mesa, AZ learning some emergency training and it was a BLAST! Not our usual car content, but we knew you’d like it!

  1. My goal is to find an old clapped out MD Helicopter and rebuild it to something as good as new on the channel (with the right help) one day!!!

  2. Cleetus, here in the UK to obtain a CAA PPL(H) (Private Pilots Helicopter licence), power down, training for auto rotation landings is an essential part of the curriculum for qualifying. I can't believe it's not the same with the FAA in the US?

  3. Any rumors on the “drive shaft” failure on the crash on Kauai last week? In my years in the industry, I never heard of this failure, unless it was combat induced 👨‍✈️

  4. I have close to 7000 hrs of instruction given in helicopters and I have to say MD has some good instructors! Great job managing the kinetic and potential energies in the autorotations!

  5. 4:00 Is the squeaking collective control part of the thrill, or maybe worth some extra pre flight lubrification procedure? 😊 The Helicopter looks absolutely hot.Very consistent demo of auto rotation practice, cool.

  6. If you listen real close, you can hear the instructors brass balls rolling around on the floor!

There's no way i could let someone try that for the first time with me in it!
    😂

  7. Surprised that you were allowed to practice auto rotation onto the apron near parked aircraft! When I was doing ATC we had a designated auto-rotation area off to the side of and away from the main runway or built-up areas. Definitely no parked aircraft nearby.

  8. So, if your looking from the top down at the main blade rotation where would the max blade angle be for straight forwatd flight?

  9. awefully close to the parked aircraft.. i am not sure those owners would appreciate you doing that so close to their aircraft. also, doing these maneuvers, with landing aircraft on the runway next to you… this looks and sounds wreckless.

  10. I flew predecessor to the MD 500 the 0H6A as an Air Cavalry scout in Vietnam. This ship was amazing in what it could do under the worst conditions. It held 23 world records in 1968. 1400 of the OH6A went to Vietnam and only 600 survived due to combat action.

  11. I would much rather see you with a helicopter then any car, I'm a helicopter pilot just don't have the bucks to own one. Would love to do tours, search and rescue . That for me would be my dream job and not have to worry about money!
