Police Use K9 to Apprehend Suspect in Stolen Tag Investigation

On March 18, 2022, a Brookhaven police officer spotted a vehicle with a stolen tag at a Valero gas station in Brookhaven, Georgia.
Only a female passenger was present. She claimed to have just hitched a ride and didn’t have identification.
An officer drove around the area in search of the suspect, but wasn’t able to locate him and returned to Valero gas station.
The officer called for a K9 unit to assist in the search, while another officer went inside the gas station to review surveillance footage and gather more information.
The K9 quickly located the suspect, who tried to run away but was taken down by the police dog in a matter of seconds.
He was arrested and charged with theft by receiving property stolen in another state, obstruction, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of marijuana (less than one ounce).
The female passenger was also arrested and charged with identity fraud, using identifying information of another, hindering apprehension or punishment of a criminal, theft by receiving stolen property, possession of marijuana, and possession of methamphetamine.
