High-Speed Chase and K9 Capture: Dick’s Sporting Goods Theft Suspect’s Escape

On October 4, 2023, Wauwatosa Police Department received a call regarding a retail theft in progress at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
The officer swiftly responded and located the suspect’s vehicle, initiated a traffic stop, but the suspect refused to comply, and a high-speed chase ensued.
A few minutes into the pursuit, the suspect eventually pulled over to the side of the road.
Realizing the unpredictable nature of the situation, the officer called for backup and requested stop sticks, just in case the suspect tried to evade arrest by fleeing in their vehicle.
One of the backup officers cautiously approached the stopped vehicle, attempting to communicate with whoever was inside and requested that the suspect roll down all the windows
the other officer placed stop sticks in front of the vehicle, preparing for any possible escape attempt.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn as the suspect suddenly accelerated and continued the frantic chase.
The high-speed pursuit eventually led to a dramatic crash and a chaotic scramble on 84th Street. Three individuals quickly exited the vehicle, leaving it running.
Undeterred, the officers continued their relentless search for the fleeing suspect who had vanished into a nearby neighborhood.
With the assistance of a K9 unit, they managed to track down and apprehend the suspect who had been hiding behind garbage cans.
The suspect was subsequently taken into custody and charged with fleeing or eluding a police officer and shoplifting.
