Cedar Hill, Texas — On Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at approximately 12:17 pm, Cedar Hill police officers were dispatched to 950 E. Belt Line Road in reference to an active shooter inside a medical building. Cedar Hill officers arrived at the location at approximately 12:21 p.m. and observed a victim of a gunshot wound on the ground in front of the clinic. Officers also observed a male, identified as 34-year-old Bryan McGee, with a long gun leaving the scene in a black Chrysler four-door vehicle. Police say McGee intended to shoot his ex-girlfriend. Instead, he shot a doctor. At approximately 12:22 p.m., the suspect vehicle was involved in a crash in the 700 block of E. Belt Line Road. Multiple officers on the scene of the crash observed the suspect inside the vehicle with a long gun.
Dashcam and Bodycam footage shows that the suspect fired at officers and five officers returned fire. At one point, the suspect dropped the firearm on the ground and the shooting stopped. The suspect then picked up the firearm, and officers re-engaged the suspect to stop the threat. Officers then safely approached the vehicle, removed the suspect, and immediately began life-saving measures until medics arrived. The suspect was transported to Methodist Dallas Medical Center, where he is currently in critical condition. There were additional weapons and ammunition inside of the vehicle. One physician from the medical building was injured and was transported to the hospital in stable condition. One civilian driver of a vehicle was involved in the crash and was transported with minor injuries.

This may sound callous, but I am somewhat disappointed that he survived the engagement. Instead of a comparatively small sum necessary for a burial, the citizens of Cedar Hill will now have to fork over a massive amount of money for judicial prosecution and a lengthy incarceration.

Too bad the officer with the only real vantage point didn’t have a long gun. Dude would be pushing up daisies. It’s sad that because of the current climate the officer issued a command to drop it and waited until the pos actually pointed the rifle at him, when he would’ve been completely justified in shooting as soon as he saw him with the weapon. He came close to being shot because of it, and that’s just damn wrong.
