Louisville, Kentucky — On Friday, December 8th, 2023, around 9:15 p.m., Detectives with LMPD’s Criminal Interdiction Division were conducting an investigation in the area of 4th and Central Avenue and made the determination to stop a vehicle. Upon the stop, the suspect, 28-year-old Marvin Smith fled from the vehicle with a gun clearly visible in his hand. The pistol had an extended magazine attached.
Officers pursued Smith commanding him to drop the gun. Sergeant Joshua Arnwine fired shots at Smith. The suspect went to the ground. Officers again gave verbal commands to drop the gun. Smith did not comply, and Sergeant Arnwine fired several more shots. Smith ran around the corner where he fell. Officers were able to place him into custody and began rendering aid. Smith was transported to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
His charges are:
• Receiving Stolen Property (Stolen Gun)
• Wanton Endangerment in the First Degree of a Police Officer
• Enhanced Trafficking in Controlled Substances
– Cocaine
– Fentanyl
– Methamphetamine
• Fleeing and evading
