I would tell these people who ask you why your video recording that your using the film for “police accountabilityâ€.. it will put people at ease, they are sometimes comming out of a traumatic situation so I think offering them the comfort will put them at ease. They aren’t usually so aggresive, and we don’t want legal trouble to come of it. Defamation could happen if a local paper prints a story regarding your story, and that person faces monetary or physical damage. Please speak with a lawyer in that regards. Why just announce who you are to the people? Tension is always high, and it makes things worse to see a stranger filming them. I know you don’t have to, but just to make others feel at ease. Or at least make a badge or a t shirt ID’ing yourself.
