I feel like US cops should be sent for training in other countries. Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. The last time the police in the UK shot and killed a suspect was December 2022. In all of 2022, 3 people were killed by armed police officers, one of which now faces a murder trial for doing so. It's actually very rare to see any death by cop cases across Europe as the burden of proof when it comes to justification for it is very high. For us, deescalation techniques are far more important and there is a lot more training than in the US. As two US officers claimed, they received 30m of deescalation training in a year.
So many people talk of how bad the cops are there. When things are that bad and that widespread, fingers really need to be pointing further up the chain. I understand that it is far more stressful in a country where mass shootings outnumber the rest of the world combined by 145%, but the training doesn't seem to be rectifying problems and the disciplinary procedures against law enforcement is rarely adequate or acceptable. It amazed me to learn that more people died from firearms related incidents in the US in one year than the total number of Ukrainian troops lost in that same time. It's always been something that made me question the dedication to the cause of those who claim to he ‘pro-life’, but then the way many things are in the US is like a foreign world compared to the 7 countries I've lived in. I'm sure one day things will be better. Let's just hope the law enforcement training improves so that officers calm situations and also have a better understanding of the laws they're meant to enforce.
