Russia and China, the worlds most powerful dictatorships. We cannot afford a direct confrontation with either, but we can and should do everything we can to weaken them and hasten their implosion. Putin fears Ukraine because he no longer has a mini dictator ruling there. The biggest danger for a dictatorship is a nearby, prosperous democracy, exactly Putin’s nightmare. We can pay for Ukraine now, a pittance of our foreign aid budget, or we can pay later when Putin bullies the next neighbor. Oh, and China’s watching to see how serious we are about protecting our allies ie Taiwan (where all are semi-conductors come from).
