I'm a doula, a childbirth educator, a lactation counselor and a midwifery assistant. I'm in grad school for mental health counseling specializing in perinatal mental health. A lot of these are really good ideas. I know that some of them are implemented in my country (Australia) through the health department, but it is in a rather piecemeal fashion. And the birth classes aren’t weekly- we only got like two of them. And even then, you had to apply. The hospital system works very well, but they only send out a midwife to you once after birth, at 4 weeks postpartum, to see how you’re doing. We could definitely do with increasing that.
We could do with implementing a lot of these ideas. I know that Australia pioneered the skin to skin immediately after birth idea (which has been very good, and nicknamed “kangaroo care”), but I feel that we don’t do enough to support women after birth, even in our hospitals. A lot of women are handed the baby and left alone. We have to beg (or have something go wrong) before they’ll give you a rest by taking your baby to the nursery to be cared for by the nurses for a few hours. That doesn’t help things.
I’m glad they’re still pushing ahead with good policy, even under sanctions.
This is so needed in the US especially for women of color. There are statistics that show more black women are dying from child birth complications in higher rates than any other race. Everyone should be informed and knowledgeable when it comes to child birth FOR FREE. Come together as a community and help all women have a safe delivery

I am very against sanctions, because it only harms poor, working people, with the object of forcing them to vote or rise against their leaders out. Sanctions have never worked and our leadership knows it, but lacks the courage to admit.
