Venezuela and American Manifest Destiny – Gerald Horne

A core concept of “Americanism” is the belief that the United States has a God given right to control all of the Americas in the name of democracy and freedom–but in reality, for plunder and commercial interest – historian Gerald Horne joins Paul Jay

  1. The United States are saving Venezuelans from dying at the hands of the criminal drug dealers they have for leaders. If Americans are obtaining some benefits for doing this, I still bless them for their help and support.

  2. Bolton didn't say "our hemisphere" when talked about Venezuela randomly, he did consciously, he's on the Monroe Doctrine, he's the product of Monroe Doctrine as all Trump government.

  3. Sanders & Warren have long voting records favoring regime change. Sanders stood against the Iraq War only in the rear mirror. Warren has yet to post an anti-regime change vote.

  4. The administration demonizes welfare and then offers welfare foreign aid to Venezuela !!!! GO FIGURE There are plenty of homeless who would like aid right here in our back yard

  5. I know very little about such matters, but I would beware of the US conjuring up an independent third party to attack Maduro from close up. Some say Hugo Chavez was a victim of such an attack.

  6. Unfortunately Latin America is a addict to classical Oligarchy and more important any Economic Improvement is Dependent on Cult of Personality

  7. What is this bad habit, of calling any government that the US State considers as a geopolitical enemy, as a regime?

Saudi Arabia is never called a regime by the US, although Saudi Arabia fits the definition of a non-democratic “regime”, more than any other nation.

  8. How's a Maduro govt ''a regime''? Stop repeatedly calling the democratically elected prez of another country : ''a brutal dictator of a regime'' – this is working to manufacture a consent, it's a propaganda that the Real News does not need to contribute to.

  9. Paul, We have edited many Wikipedia pages, Wikipedia is a trojan horse that promotes fake news and censorship to support the the deep state narrative that TRN fights against. Wikipedia is a riddled with disinformation and misinformation about all topics, not just politics. Please donate to Wikispooks.com for a real wiki about real politics and real news.

  10. U.s. invaded IRAQ . AND DESTROYED iT LEFT IT WORST THEN HOW IT WAS
NEXT WAS AFGHANISTAN TOOK OVER OPIUM FIELD . NEXT WAS. ALGERIA. Killed. GHADAFFI . LEFT A MESS. IN ALGERIA . NOW IS VENEZUELA. BEING TARGETTED . THE PROBLEM IS. THIS IS NOT THE MIDDLE EAST . RUSSIAN AND CHINESE ARE HEAVELY INVESTED IN THERE

  11. The most battle hardened troops in the hemisphere?" Soooo Cuban special forces are a force to be recorded with? Is that even factual?

  12. I am very disappointed with Bernie Sanders on Venezuela. His tweets show him to be dangerously weak on foreign policy and not at all consistent with his pro-worker views. Perhaps Bernie is nothing more than controlled opposition. If that sounds harsh then maybe you are easily duped into hero worship.

  13. Thank you Real News for inviting Dr. Horne to weigh in on the Venezuela crisis. His geopolitical analysis is insightful and provocative to the establishment.

  14. You are correct that the million and a half people who attended the anti-Guaido/US intervention rally will rise up against any US military assault on Venezuela. There was an ICJ (Independent Civilian Journalist) in Venezuela interviewing people on the street and this is exactly what they were indicating.

  15. USA presidents and his cronies are crying crocodile tears. They should lift sanctions and blockage and allow Venezuela have back their money and medicines and foods that they bought.

  16. Excellent video; Dr. Horne always gives us a comprehensive History lesson. This Administration consists of a bunch of not ready for prime time reckless blunderers. The puppet-masters directing these idiots have already let us know their intentions when Bannon said the objective is to destroy US government as we know it.

  17. Excellent piece. Thank you. Professor Diane Shaver Clemens RIP (decades of Berkeley undergrads learned about Gast's "American Progress," Manifest Destiny, and US imperialism in her radical lectures =)

  18. Manifest Destiny…US invaded Puerto Rico in 1898 as part of the Spanish American War…and never left. Colony to this day.

  19. I feel very uncomfortable with Mr Jay's mitigation of Sen Sanders' support for the Trojan Horse aid for Venezuela. No matter what pressure Sanders may be under, his promotion of the entry of that "aid" in inexcusable and unacceptable in a progressive. Sanders cannot be trusted. He caves. He is inconsistent. I think TRNN and Paul Jay must stop soft pedaling Bernie Sanders' betrayals. Bernie Sanders is not an American Jeremy Corbyn. He does not have Corbyn's integrity. He cannot shine Corbyn's shoes.

  20. As Enlightened American citizens, the non party affiliates, we should let it known that the American government does not represent us or our values. That THEY are not royalty, nor above us. They are public servants paid by our 40,50,60 hours a week paid checks. Is the establishment and their political toads.
