Take the Money Out of Prison Slavery

Take the Money Out of Prison Slavery

Activists and students continue a national divestment movement to stop the corporate funding of private prisons. Sylvester Owino, a Kenyan immigrant, spent 10 years in an immigrant detention center while his case bounced between the lower and higher courts. Owino and other activists talk about the private prison divestment movement and abuses in the transporting of prisoners, the origins of the private prison system and their roots in slavery, forced labor for immigrant detainees and looking beyond divestment in order to close private prisons.

  1. For us to face the ruin and devastation we have inflicted upon this planet, we must first address the ruin and devastation we visit upon one another. Thanks Eddie.

  2. In America we have a different kind of within the Nation Immigration System that is Legally Acceptable form of Immigration – The For Profit Prisons.

  3. I hate to break this to everyone, but…
The real reason behind current prison reform along-with the legalization of marijuana and the end of mass-incarceration of NATIVE-BORN AMERICAN CITIZENS for low-level non-violent offenses is…
Prisons will have to emptied out in order to make room for if and when the time comes when mass-deportation of any and all illegal immigrants(DACA recipients included)is finally implemented.
    You see.
We are becoming an automated digital society in a literal New Machine Age, as-

    Machine automation
    Robotics
    Next-generation drones
    Fully automated facilities
    Kiosks/self checkout
    Self-driving vehicles
    Artificial intelligence
    Digital outsourcing

Are gradually rolled into the workplace.
Relatively soon. Their won't be a task too mundane or advanced that A.I combined with machine automation isn't capable of performing. Countless low skill, low wage jobs in addition to higher paying professional positions will be eliminated en'masse. The amount of jobs created won't offset the amount destroyed. Not even close. We will soon have a major labor surplus. The only reason illegal immigrants/immigration was tolerated in the first place was because the "Powers that be" Democrat, Republican, Deep State or whatever they call themselves. Needed a source of cheap labor until the time mass-automation of the workplace becomes possible. Now that the time has come. Those illegal immigrants have served their purpose. They will have to go as the one commodity they had-Cheap labor is obviated by machines. Behind the scenes, both Republican and Democratic parties will see to this. All while using President Trump as political cover.
In that coming era of mass technological unemployment…The prison-industrial-complex will provide one source of stable employment as rooting out every illegal immigrant will take years if not decades.
    Come on now people…
It's so painfully obvious. You really need to connect the dots.

  4. The idiots in the U.S. would rather die in prison as a slave than fight for their lives. The ruling elites will NEVER give anything to the lower classes until they are forced to do so by a massive uprising. Fight back or suffer the consequences.

  5. The Texas Prison is making $798 per child & they are still separating children from parents & growing inmate numbers is growing** Locked up 30 Priest at boarder** They undeployed 3,100 troops that don't belong there*

  6. Yes and after Obamas eight years of prison reform and profit abolition, how terrible that Obamas political effort should be so utterly abused by the current administration.

Perhaps we may one day have a grown up conversation where we look at the actual problems and not just partizan views of the effects.
