Without alienating Russia, the Putin administration might well have stood by mostly as an outsider since the skyrocketing oil price would be highly beneficial for both Russia's economy and its own oligarchs. Ironic that cutting off oil to Iran is not entirely unlike the oil embargo on Imperial Japan prior to Pearl Harbor. Iran unlike Imperial Japan however has economic & political support from China and now Russia. If the US state thinks it can take on the entire globe at one time, that is classic late stage empire arrogance. Would not rule out a false flag event.
