While the country waits with bated breath for the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, it is becoming clearer by the day that this impending decision is part of a broader, reactionary push to undo decades of social progress and solidify the US as a hyper-unequal, theocratic, undemocratic fortress state. “All that we have fought for, from voting rights to reproductive rights, has been whittled away since the right began organizing its counterattack 50 years ago. We are entering dangerous and perilous waters, my friends…” So begins this special installment of The Marc Steiner Show, in which Marc speaks with Dani McClain and Susan Simensky Bietila about the right-wing war on women, bodily autonomy, and civil rights, the failure of the Democratic establishment to protect us, and what lessons we can draw from the pre-Roe days of abortion activism that can help us navigate a post-Roe world.
Dani McClain is an award-winning reporter whose writing focuses on race, reproductive health, and political organizing. She lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and makes artwork in collaboration with movements for social justice advancing the causes of healthcare as a human right, public education, immigrant rights, Indigenous-led movements to protect water from mines, pipelines, and oil trains, and more. She has been a registered nurse for 49 years and worked for many years in OB/GYN care.

Their agenda has always been to make us submit to their authority by selling the ignorant with a promise to return to a fantasy world that never existed. Going back to the Antebellum period, the pitch always has been a return to the "good old days" when everyone knew their place and were grateful for their abuse.
I particularly fear for the young as so many of them don't seem to understand how important their own privacy is.
When your whole life is available for anyone with an interest to scrutinize, people you don't know, know exactly what you're doing, what you've done, and what you're likely to do. Young women who miss their period can be investigated and potentially prosecuted when they return after a trip to a blue state and the laws can compel them to submit to an examination to determine if they've had an abortion. And all this is possible/inevitable because we've allowed companies and the government to access and aggregate the data we share.
HIPPA doesn't apply to the marketing data that Apple/Alphabet sells to anyone willing to pay for it.
As far as I know, the Democrats have not introduced any legislation to protect a woman's right to an abortion, why? This should be one of the major issues in this upcoming election and fighting for this right and others under right wingnut attack should be a ticket to Congress. It also can't hurt to get Republicans on the record voting against common sense legislation. As has been pointed out, these extremist views are held by a minority – and I suspect a relatively small minority at that.
Of course when one considers the nothing burger the DNC gave its supposed base in 2009 when Obama won in a landslide with control of the House and a filibuster proof Senate, it becomes pretty apparent that the DNC is not interested in passing its supposed agenda, just dangling it as a carrot so people will vote for them.
As Bill Clinton gloated about his Strategy of Triangulation, "Where are [voters] gonna go?"

I am what one would call a classic liberal and I am to some degree pro choice….up until a point in the pregnancy. There's most definitely a point when we are talking about the rights of TWO humans to deny that is absurd. We are not living in the days of old. There are many options to do the right thing all around for everyone IE: the day after pill as well as other contraception's. Of course rape and medical conditions are a totally different scenario. My mother had me at 16 years of age. My grandmother wanted me aborted but my teenage mom refused and I would become extremely close to my grandmother. We are talking about lives no matter how much we want to pretend differently….this should be considered. How can that not be considered when screaming about rights? Abortion should be legal but only in the beginning stages of pregnancy IMO. And yes….it ABSOLUTELY and issue that concerns me. All life is precious no matter how easily it can be snuffed out
