The decision has not only been devastating for the city of Oakland and its many baseball fans, but also carries wider implications that extend beyond the MLB to matters of public finance. After all, why should cities keep shelling out billions in taxpayer money for sports facilities while schools and hospitals close? Edge of Sports host Dave Zirin zeroes in on the controversial new Vegas stadium, taking aim in particular at MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, the “Gordon Gecko” of baseball.

No one in Oakland gave a damn for the Kansas City A's fans when they STOLE the A's from Kansas City more than a half century ago… When you have no empathy for others, don't expect any in return… What goes around comes around!!!
Oakland had a detailed plan for Howard Terminal and had raised hundreds of millions of dollars. Manfred said there was no plan in Oakland. Ask yourself why… is Oakland being used to threaten other cities to open up the taxpayer wallet to fund stadium renovations? Look who is the chair of the relocation committee… Milwaukee Brewers chairman Mark Attanasio, who is currently trying to shake down taxpayers for a $400M renovation of their 20 year old stadium. Manfred cited the Oakland A’s as an example of what could happen if nothing is done in his threats to the city of Milwaukee.

You are so right. I’ve been a die hard A’s fan since I was in 3rd grade 1971. If they move, not only will I stop following the a’s, I will stop following MLB altogether. It has broken my heart and broken the illusion of magic pro sports holds for all of us. I stopped watching my once beloved Raiders when they moved to nowhere Nevada. This is a tragedy and a travesty if it goes through.
I wish he would also talk about the greed of MLB child labor camps in Latin American countries. For cheap players, they have 8 year old boys working out 12-16 hours a day. No education, no healthcare, scouts exploit the family, won’t teach them English, different draft system… MLB would rather spend billions on these camps than or promoting baseball in the Uk than building the game in inner American cities.

Oakland has been hostile to all things capitalism, private buissness, "patriarchal" and frankly sports. Woke is Oakland's God.Why don't you get George Soros to buy you a team. I'm sorry your loosing your team…I really am. I had great memories of my dad taking me to games in the late 80s. But look at the bright side, you've got all that free speech over in Berkley…oh wait.
Always remember that in defending the Astros' cheating Manfred referred to the championship trophy as just a piece of metal. That is what he thinks of the sport of baseball.
Oakland is Baseball with a capital B man. My grandfather (Horace Turner) taught Billy Martin some finer points of the Game when he was a young man. Build-up, sports in Oakland.

Reggie wanted to buy the A's years ago, Bud Selig didn't want him to be part of the "Old Boys Club" of owners. (Reggie talked about this on Howard Stern.) They've played in a dump for years, it was obvious if a stadium wasn't built there at some point they were gone.

Sports is becoming secondary to other issues that are more of a concern to average Joe citizen. So whether they stay in Oakland or move to Las Vegas…their days, like all other teams, are numbered.
