NAFTA 2.0 Enshrines Deregulation for all of North America

Trump’s re-negotiated NAFTA, now called the USMCA, pushes food safety and other forms of deregulation to new extremes, making it more difficult to undo the damage even after Trump leaves office, says Patrick Woodall of Food and Water Watch

  1. The new NAFTA sounds like a mixed bag for labor but a horrific plan from an environmental perspective. This is Trumpism for sure.

  2. Washington today has fallen into the hands of lending institutions and moneyed multinational corporations, exactly as Thomas Jefferson spoke of two hundred years ago in 1816. Within corporations, there is no democracy only autocracy.

  3. Everything the US has done to destroy other countries is now being applied to the US itself!

    1. Privatization
    2. Deregulation
    3. Deep cuts to social programs

GOODBYE USA!!! Chris Hedges is 100% correct!

  4. Why don’t you just get real, the reason why you can’t sell your gas guzzling tanks that pass as cars, are twofold,
    (1) the Cheeseburger swallowers couldn’t get in to what you call “compact “ cars, ( 2) thank God the era of fossil fuels is coming to its end. Only that Orange Faced cretin in the Oval Office doesn’t believe in climate change.Your only mass market for the Gas Guzzlers is Canada and Mexico !
I cannot understand why an intelligent guy like President Obama recapitalised the Auto Industry bearing in mind the the imminent demise of the the Fossil Fuel Industry, re transportation. I suppose it was political.

  5. consumption of foreign products, not equally regulated nor under similar copy write laws, and the high tariffs on American products, are not good for American workers nor slave wages for any people….People are responsible for their consumption of products too…the protections of "resources" is a way to keep "resources" in the hands of the wealthy and away from the people. …can we discuss the nanotechnology mad scientists want to release and 5G?

Deregulation, making it cheaper for polluters to produce is the perfect example of privatized profits and socialized costs.

  7. Some may want to call this TRADE deal NAFTA 2.0 or USMCA, but I like to call it "Preparation-H 2.0"!

"It's smaller and more efficient than before, so it doesn't hurt anybody's butt-hole."

  8. This is the result of not having a real left in the US. The environmental rules have a been a problem since NAFTA was adopted. The chance to make changes with with Obama were missed of course as with so much of what he could have done. Listening to Larry Summers on NPR this week about the new agreement he could have cared less. Even if we get a Blue Wave, they will be at the feet of the corporations like their Republican toadies I am sorry to say.

  9. The wage provision is a cynical pitch to the workers affected by this bogus trade deal. Throwing them a bone so they don't mass revolt. Might even be an attempt at engineering a small middle class in Mexico to pit against American workers down the road.

  10. Can Congress add amendments and make provisions on this deal? Luckily it won't get voted on until after the Midterms. Hopefully people stay motivated and VOTE!

  11. In a rigged system,
regulation -> strangle competition, limiting their growth,
deregulation -> unchain the monopoly beast.

  13. Sounds like just what the doctor ordered! Lead in the drinking water is a sure sign of over regulation, be honest. More great work from a truly great President and if all that wasn't enough, it just so happens that these wondrous changes are being brought to you by a truly wonderful human being.
Just ask it! It never lies.
