Jeremy Corbyn: ‘The left needs to work on a much more global basis’

From endless wars, militarism, and surges in rightwing “populism” to ceaseless capitalist pillage, neoliberal austerity, and botched international responses to COVID-19 and climate change, the events of recent decades should have galvanized the left much more than they have. Instead of representing and fighting for the interests of working people, however, traditional “left” political parties in the West have focused on appealing mainly to the socially liberal sections of the professional middle classes and managing economic decline. Something needs to change. TRNN contributor Radhika Desai speaks with Jeremy Corbyn about the evolution of the UK’s Labour Party in the era of neoliberalism, and about the need for the left to mobilize communities at the local level while building an international political vision.

Jeremy Corbyn has been a Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Islington North district since 1983, making him among the longest serving MPs in the British House of Commons. He served as Leader of the Labour Party and Leader of the Opposition from 2015 to 2020.

  1. not wanting to be locked in your house for no reasen and injected with a vacine just to boost big pharma is aperantly rightwing now

  2. 4:59 "And rumour has it , he's going to start a new Party."
42:25 "Are you going to start a new Party?"
46:40 "With or without a new Party."
My problem is Jeremy never answered this crucial question. I watched with excitement. Four minutes in and Radhika Desai poses the question/rumour. I watched with bated breath throughout the long interview.

Then my heart leapt as at 42:25 Radhika said "Are you going to start a new Party?" Jeremy continued answering but did not respond to the particular question/rumour. It's getting near the end Jermy finishes his sentence and Radhika says almost jokingly "With or without a new Party."

My heart sank. Jeremy did not respond. He totally ignored the one question I was dying to hear him answer. So there you have it. 400,000 new members who joined because he looked like he was going to change our world will hang on to Labour the (right of the)Party that ruined our chance of a better future.

Apart from those expelled by Starmer there are those who have since left (in disgust, including me).

Although Labour is losing it's members and quickly going bankrupt. It'll probably win the next GE as the Tories are so incredibly bad and disliked.

  3. I still love Corbyn, unfortunately, he misread the British working class on the Brexit issue. This, coupled with sabotage by the military industrial MSM complex ensured that a probable win became an ‘almost won’. Very sad!

  4. As a dual citizen (UK & USA) living in London, I watched the rise and fall of Corbin in UK politics. He is a good person that is well meaning…BUT…. He sealed his fate by not directly and decisively stopping the Anti-Semitic tendencies exhibited by some Labour Party members. He appealed to younger voters, but alienated traditional working class Labour voters. Much like Reagan democrats abandoning Carter, his positions caused a catastrophic collapse of Labour support north of London. Idealism is noble, but he needed to bring the base along with him. I wish him well, but he is unelectable in the UK.

  5. The establishment pulled out all the stops to undermine this man. The rapacious oligarchs who have their hands on the levers couldn't stand to see the people better off.

  6. Corbyn policies..free internet for everyone….nationalise water..railways..build thousands of council houses all this on borrowed money…free movement of people(that means open borders)etc;etc;..immigration would have been rampant on this little island..it’s bad enough now…my grandchildren would be paying this countries debt if Corbyn had his way..that’s why he didn’t get voted into parliament…he’s now in obscurity

  7. People are more naturally greedy than benevolent. To be benevolent is a privilege most can not afford to be do. Furthermore, almost all people put their family first. Socialists don't seem to get these concepts….

  8. This is my first exposure to Corbyn outside of second-party mentions. What an awesome guy. Gives me a bit of faith in power (well, almost-power).

  9. Jeremy Corbyn 🌹 should Work with the Green Party ☘️ of England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
