  1. Dogs and humans share like 80% of the same DNA, so there should be overlap in some genes. These tests usually look at a DNA fingerprint for some specific genes, so it'll give you some result as long as those genes fall within the 80%.

    That being said, these DNA mail in tests tend to use low fidelity DNA polymerases in their PCR, so the results are low quality at best and are generally a waste of money (IMO).
