The increase in service industry jobs since Seattle enacted a $15 minimum wage is another nail in the coffin of the big business argument that raising it reduces employment.

  1. not only an increase… but an increase in the rate of growth as well.

that is damning for the right-wing economic philosophies projections about raising the minimum wage.

  2. People should be fighting for the control and the property of the production means, and not for some ridicule 15$! A revolution is needed!!

  3. Raise the minimum wage alone could over burden small businesses . it has to be implemented along with a universal basic income . that would insure that small businesses flourish .

  4. The same arguments were made in England when they first thought about reducing the working day from 12h to 8h, in addition they thought the extra time people had would cause a revolution. All it did was cause an increase in people spending money on leisure.

  5. The REAL NEWS is that people are FORCED TO WORK TILL THEY ARE 70 YEARS OLD for their FULL RETIREMENT BENEFIT WHICH ISN'T MUCH FOR MOST AMERICANS even when they are well past their EXPIRATION DATE creating a MASSIVE BOTTLENECK in the job market keeping young people in menial jobs longer or in lower paid jobs in their field longer than necessary. All this so the government hopes you will just die or retire much earlier so it does not have to pay retirement benefits!

  6. Minimum wage is a form of trickle up economics. If minimum wages kept up with inflation, it should be around 20 an hour. Lets hope automation isn't accelerated as well. The rich like to stay rich.

  7. The issue is not as much about job loss as it is with wage displacement. Businesses will definitely pay but they are going to grab a college educated person instead. That person should probably be somewhere else but is having difficulty finding employment in their field (I will not comment on the value of various degrees). That means more folks that need the work experience because they have a high school education or worse is kept out of those jobs which just perpetuates a cycle.

The folks most hurt are not the white folks.

  8. Higher wages help the economy vs high CEO pays hurt the economy. Why is it that even though we have some of the highest paid CEOs globally so many of our iconic brands have disappeared? Isn't it time to return to some semblance of reality?

  9. People will never acknowledge the negative effects of their policies. Basic common sense tells u that companies will look for alternatives when u impose a 15$ minimum wage. Those alternatives include black market immigrant labor, outsourcing, automation. Course when those negative effects come to fruition, liberals will blame the "evil capitalist" and point to the unemployment as a justification for yet another govt intervention. More welfare, basic income, govt job guarantee, etc for all these unemployed. Even if u could effectively impose this wage without effects on labor, it would just result in higher rent. Whats the rent in Seattle?

  10. Please don't call it minimum wage. Please call it a living wage. It's very disheartening and disgraceful that a country as wealthy as the United States doesn't have $15 as a living wage. So much of the wealth is spent on endless wars, a bloated military, billions of dollars in aid to Israel, and there are Healthcare or a living wage 🤔🤔🤔🤔

  11. A $15 minimum wage just costs businesses a bit more for their employees, a higher minimum wage is a boost to the economy because their employees will spend it all.

  12. WRONG!
It does cost some jobs BUT creates others to take their place.
It even puts people out of business BUT helps other Businesses to stay alive that otherwise could die.

  13. ahh capitalist life…..we WON !!! after a big fight they raised the minimum wage and then the cost of living went up and now we have to start all over again and fight for another raise dammit………:(
