Presidents who go after corporate interests almost always get crushed by them. TR targeted the "Trusts" and the so-called special interests and got shot. So did McKinley before him. Kennedy tried to reign in the federal reserve and got whacked. Bernie will get the same treatment. Fun fact, Bernies policies are actually considered Centrist in every other part of the developed world! His role models for well functioning Capitalism are the Scandinavian countries which are, even though historically Social Democratic, just highly regulated capitalistic with many basic human rights included in the social commitment to its citizenry. This has made them the "happiest", most "democratic", "healthiest", "well educated","best for family", most equality, and so forth in all international stats. Americans have been indoctrinated/brainwashed about these facts and the actual meaning of Social Democracy, frequently confusing it with Socialism and even Communism!

Both the Democrats and the Republicans are inextricably beholden to their financial backers in the corporate world of the USA. The actions of their established elites naturally reflect this situation. For them it means the life or death of their parties.
