  1. Why is it taboo, in the putative land of freedom, the U.S., to interview Dr. Ellsburg on mainstream media? Why is it
taboo to interview, on mainstream media, Ralph Nader? Why?

  2. The term 'hero' has been entirely cheapened over the past sixty years, especially as we've labeled all soldiers, police officers etc. as such. But to me, a child of the 50's and teen/young adult of the 60's… Daniel Ellsberg is as great a hero as the US has ever produced. I will always be in his debt.

  3. Counties have nukes because it gives worldwide status and they believe it's a deterrent from attack. Unless both realities change, countries will continue to pursue them. Whether a country has 1 or 1000 nukes it's irrelevant.

  4. Paul Jay at his very best, interviewing a greatly knowledgeable soft spoken heroic man, … thanks for the Martin Luther King quotes from more than fifty yrs ago now, at the end, they seemed the most relevant of all, after what had preceded. "There is such a thing as being too late!" Thank you!!!

  5. Mr. Jay, the Real News team, and author Daniel Ellsberg have done a great public service creating this brilliant series on an unpleasant choice we cannot escape.

  6. The military in the US is just there to gain power and control over resources because the US doesn't have nearly enough in their own borders to sustain the country so no country could want to seize the US.

  7. I think Ellsberg maybe misses that the US uses it's massive nuclear arsenal to ensure that Russia (as before with the USSR) has to maintain an equally large — but far more taxing to their smaller economy — nuclear weapons program.

  8. A seat at the table of nuclear warfare is no different than ejecting from a jet; in your mind you believe you will actually have control, but the dominos don't fall that way, it's clear, the US has an urge to entice other countries to accept nuclear warfare, just so they can coerce them into jeopardizing circumstances that surrender their power. You can't kill two birds with one stone if they're allergic to bullshit.

  9. Israel mined the Golan Heights with tactical MADM nuclear bombs, which accounts for some of their stockpile. The only imaginable reason for doing that is to make the land itself uninhabitable should they ever lose it. In effect, if we can't have it, no one else will either.

  10. Premeditated international tactical organization is upon third world countries, the quest for nuclear arms only opens the doors for reformation of US militarization forces and ultimately cripples third-world economies and leads the US to a war of a product of itself, to the extent that US allied forces obtain power that is not governed on American soil. People who rise to power are ultimately unwilling to be subservient or subjugated, the US is more likely to pose a threat to itself than it is other countries, it's only a matter of time before these things come to past. Even if they were to deviate and be in opposition to executive orders, the US itself could initiate a war against its own military. Vice Versa, it doesn't matter.

  11. What about the environmental hazards these radioactive weapons pose to US citizens and soldiers, what about the truth?

  12. Unfortunately the works of governments, media, and ultra wealthy. Largely from a INSANE western human world. Has promulgation, promoted, publicized, and propagated insanity masquerading as sanity into the emotional and mental hard wiring of too many of its citizens. Most dangerous of the effected are those in media, moneyed, and political circles. This with the very effective self hypnosis of the majority of the countries peoples. Has in all fact created the highly likely and reality based case for an actual human end of the world apocalypse. This very insanity has soaked into all corners of the human world. So we are all collectively blind to the eminent threat of exstintion by our collective INSANITY.

  13. Any sane man or woman on Earth fully understands that nuclear weapons and the immeasurable threat to humanity they represent makes it of paramount importance to actualize their total abolition from the face of the Earth. If it takes an international agreement making possession of nuclear weapons a crime punishable by death – so be it.

Thank you kindly Paul Jay and Daniel Ellsberg. Give true and everlasting peace on Earth a chance.

  14. Nato on Russian borders certainly effects the modern arms race as well as current day McCarthyism, deliberately it seems, to seperate or funnel wealth from the working class to the non working class. we've created this "perfect storm", it's been hundreds of years of immoral decisions, whilst proclaiming the opposite. Environmental devastation, biological annihilation, and atmospheric transformation are the 'externalities" of this insane system. The odds we will somehow escape the consequences are in the neighborhood of the national debt to one. This "perfect storm" looms on the horizon, while the liberal elite decries "we still have time" as they enact the same change as the deniers… Seems as though we are destined to become 'great filter" fodder….Greed and hubris multiplied by apathy and compliance plus 7.7 billion people is the equation of human extinction. 'Societies collective madness is what we call sanity."–RD Laing Great series Real News…Thank You….

  15. No sane rational person looks at the wars since the second world war and thinks that we needed to be engaged. We don't elect sane ration people.

  16. Wonderful series! So much good stuff! So nice to have a blast from the past to give contrast to the present disgrace at the White House.

  17. Wish Daniel could be available as a regular guest on foreign policy matters. Thank you both for this great series.
Sorry Daniel, change within the corrupt Democratic Party is impossible. They are not going to move left. They are moving right.
    Revolution seems inevitable.
Just look at this WAPO article today written by and for the defense industry (CIA).

Why America needs low-yield nuclear warheads now

Jon Kyl, a Republican, represents Arizona in the U.S. Senate. Michael Morell, a Post contributing columnist, is a former deputy director and twice acting director of the Central Intelligence Agency.

The U.S. Constitution mandates that the government “provide for the common defence,” an obligation that has defined much of our professional careers. It has also motivated us to serve on the current National Defense Strategy Commission, whose just-released bipartisan report calls for major improvements to the nation’s defense. One of the report’s key recommendations is an endorsement of the nuclear modernization programs outlined in the 2018 Nuclear Posture Review. Notably, these proposals include the development of improved options for low-yield nuclear warheads.

As the government’s mind-set shifts from waging counterterrorism and counterinsurgency wars to a return of great power competition with Russia and China, nuclear weapons must continue to maintain their deterrent effect.

Both Russia and China have engaged in large-scale nuclear weapons modernization programs and have kept their respective nuclear workforces up to speed on skills required for building new nuclear warhead designs. They have also increased the role and prominence of nuclear weapons in their national security strategies. They have not followed America’s lead in diminishing the role and number of nuclear weapons…..

  18. We're not the smartest complex life form to develop in this Universe but the will to life is a powerful force. The Anglo-American Empire has been successful at alienating the duality of self but I'm betting the will to life will overcome that alienation. In 1848 a German Farmer established the Volks Banken; a cooperative Bank that made loans the big private Banks refused to make; loans to the local small businesses. Germany's Banking system today consist of a Triad Banking system of "Too Big to Fail" private Banks, Co-Ops and public Banks; Banks with a will to life. The Anglo-American Empire is based on the will to death; WW1 and WW2 were wars manufactured by Empire. In the US the genocide of a race of people and the enslaving of another race of people is a will to death. Reality now asserts itself and everybody will choose either a will to Life or a will to Death. The Climate makes the rules now.

  19. Both parties endorse the military industrial complex. Besides war mongering in ME etc., both parties are subservient to Israeli whim. Funded by Jewish money, there seems no hope for any green production program. $21 trillion deficit will get worse and ultimately kill Anglo-American civilization.

  20. The US military is the Earth's biggest polluter. It's quite simple, though difficult. The humans are very attached to their toys of death. It's the American way.
