  1. Deadline and Variety both published articles in the last week forecasting the same thing. The studios are about to embark on massive spending cuts which will see output reduced by a half to two thirds. The end result seems like its going to be better paid work and benefits but a lot less work to go around. Many of the WGA writers who took part in this strike will find in the coming years that it will be impossible for them to make a livelihood out of writing and will have to seek other careers.

This will be coupled with increasing investment by streaming services in overseas productions which will be more competitive in terms of being cost effective now. The streaming services will probably also increase subscription prices to new highs and maybe even try and tie people into annual contacts, this in turn will consumers back to piracy and that will drive residuals down for writers and actors.

This was starting to happen prior to the strikes of course but it will happen at a faster rate and go a lot further than it would have. The American entertainment industry is about to suffer a kind of recession.

The end result seems like it will be somewhat of a pyric victory, sometimes even when you win you lose.

  2. Where's the engoron t shirt I need the engoron t shirt…in that graphic that aired.gimme gimme

  3. Why does this look so much like someone in front of a blue/green screen? I've done a lot of green screen filming myself so I know what it looks like. I really hope they aren't faking a shot for such a minor story.

  4. I'm so glad they're back. One look at how much worse the internet has been in their absence shows just how desperately we've needed them!
