The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore was struck by a container ship early Tuesday, causing it to collapse and sending multiple vehicles into the water below. At least two people have been rescued, but “upwards of seven” could still be in the water, officials said.

technically the bridge was seriously under supported, if one pillar gets knocked out and the thing collapses its a weak flawed design….1-2 of the pillars should be able to be knocked out and it should still stand…if a bridge is so dependent on one single pillar to support it it is a bad design

Just awful & terrible!!!!Prayers for everybody involved. But yes, there was a bigger cargo crash before this. There were no lives were lost thankfully. But please remember The Exxon cargo ship. That boat captain was drunk. Soo clearly we haven’t learned anything!! That cargo ship crashed causing crude oil to spill all over, Devastating Valdez Alaska and stole years the of the fishing industries, habitat, jobs etc. You can still find oil on the beaches if you look for it. Millions of dollars lost to lots of Alaskans people. Their companies destroyed. It broke up families too because of the stress and the craziness in 1989. It was a freaking zoo here. Please look up on YouTube. Imagine oil all over the ocean that wasn’t contained properly. It was mind blowing to see!!! I was a foreman, I missed out on about roughly $15,000 for college that summer. I had worked in the industry 6 years by then. I was part of that settlement and in the end, I got less than $2000 after my lawyers fees. Hello my last check was over 20 years later. So nothing moves quickly in the courts system, hitting poor victims twice. Soo I’m praying things are different now… ❤️🩹🙏

Ships of this size should be guided by tug boats until the ship is in the open seas. To let ships this size to sail around structures like bridges is crazy. No matter the cost. Cheaper than building a new bridge.
