Zimbabwean opposition leader Nelson Chamisa warned Wednesday that the southern African country is “heading into a dangerous direction” following the murder of Tapfumaneyi Masaya.Masaya, a 51-year-old activist and member of Chamisa’s Citizens Coalition for Change, was seized by a group of unidentified individuals before being carried into a vehicle and presumably murdered.Zimbabwe has been ruled by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, a member of Robert Mugabe’s ZANU-PF party, since the longstanding dictator left office in 2019. Police said they are investigating the abduction and killing.There has been growing international condemnation of deteriorating human rights in Zimbabwe.The U.S. Embassy said on X it was “alarmed” by Masaya’s case and called for a full investigation.
