A German Village Fights for Survival Against Coal Mining

Germany wants to phase out climate-damaging coal power by 2038. But before that, five villages in North Rhine-Westphalia are slated for demolition so that the lignite in the ground beneath them can be mined. Villagers are to be reimbursed and resettled, but now that Germany wants to phase out coal power, many want to fight for their homes.

  1. The utility companies involved in this matter are demonstrating an abhorrent perspective and represent what is fundamentally wrong with the traditional energy sector.

Its almost akin to the hair-brained ideology which posits the notion that, "in order to save something, you must first destroy it."

God-speed to these community activists, as I trust they intend to tap-into the ever-growing consciousness and global support for renewable energy.

  2. With all the green energy consciousness in Germany, it's unbelievable that this is going on.
If it were the US, under Trump, this would be hopeless. Good Luck and much courage!!!
Once destroyed it's gone for EVER.

  3. Tell that coal worker to move. Tell him to get his family and his parents to move. Has he considered that? "Oooh, but he's just doing his job! Coal workers need to make a living too, boo hoo!" Get a different job ya schmuck!

  4. Coal???
Why would the energy company not invest in a more sustainable and environmentally responsible energy?
This project seems short-sighted, uninspired and unimaginative.
