How to Fix YOUR gas Dryer that is not heating up (Part 2- front panel)

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QP1Z4OWjTuA
This video will teach you how to troubleshoot your gas dryer. My gas dryer would not heat up so I will show you the three main pieces in the front of the dryer that should be checked using an ohms meter. It is very easy to do and ANYONE can do this. Just to get this thing checked by a technician would cost $100. Then any parts, which are 4x the price you can get them at, plus $100 or more an hour for labor. By the time you are done, they will charge $250 to fix your dryer (half price for a brand new one). This job takes 1hr if you take your time, and the parts cost under $10.

  1. My Samsung is front loading so I took top off & ran dryer (disclaimer: don't attempt):
    1.👂🏽click & waited 10sec; 2.👀ignitor glowed in reflection; 3.👂🏽gas ignited & sustained 8sec; 4.👂🏽click, gas flame off; 5.👂🏽unproductive clicks & buzzes +60sec; 6.1-5. repeated. Drum barely gets warm.
It could be consistent with the high limit thermostat, but the old one had continuity. In fact, I cleaned/changed everything even though all old parts tested good. New coils (same as Maytag FYI) seemed to help(?). $15 used Maytag valve (reused adapter) seemed to work for a few days. I'll take it apart tomorrow, re-test the new parts installed and check for loose wires. If not, maybe it's the panel?? 🤯 Update: Added a couple of washers to step back the high limit thermostat ~1/4" from the flame and it stays on long enough to dry the clothes.

  2. I have a maytag gas dryer MODEL # MDG508DAWW I PUT NEW CYLENOIDS IN CHECKED ignitor & FLAME SENSOR ALL THE THERMOSTATS MADE A BEEP WITH MY MULTI METER FOR CONTINUITY THE 1 with 4 wires had continuity across the 2 big wires but not across the 2 small ones and i'm pretty sure thats how it should be is that the cycling thermostat?and can you tell me wich 1 is the thermal fuse the iginator is not glowing and preety sure the flame sensor is good I do have continuity there.any ideas would greatly appreciated.

  3. After watching your video, I took a chance and tested my circuits and found the bad part and ordered one for $5 and got it on today. We have heat!! Thank you for showing me how easy it was to fix it myself, saved me a lot of $$.

  4. thank you so much for the helpful video! I thought it would be too complicated for me to try, but after watching, I am going to give it a try!

  5. ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO. I saw your first one and was able to remove the back and test all the components which all had continuity and are good. I vacuumed it all and put the back on. After looking at this video I will remove the front and test the components tomorrow. Any recommendations as to where to purchase the parts?? Thanks again your videos have given me the confidence to try to do the repairs myself.

  6. I bought the M Series New Style Coil Kit twice, both times I received failed parts, how can I find a working Coil Kit?

  7. Hi Chris – our 6-month-old GE Gas Dryer heats for about 10 minutes and then stops heating. I called GE Warranty and one of their techs had me replace the ducting which I did. But still the same problem – after about 10 minutes of heating it goes cold. I've also tested with no ducting to eliminate that as a problem but the same issue persists. We're going on a month now with the warranty visits from GE but no no luck. When they come they test it empty and it works. But we put wet clothes in and the heating only lasts 10 minutes. Any ideas? Thanks.

  8. Excellent video! Hope my experience helps someone… my gas coils would work for a few cycles then they'd stop making the click noise and they'd make a faint roaring sound instead of the click sound (not same sound as open gas valve). Weird right? I'd have a great orange glow from the ignitor but no flame. After going to the big box appliance store and looking at the $600 plus pricing on the el-cheapo gas dryers I figured I'd check the resistance on the gas coils, easy to get to on this Kenmore. The 2 pin had 1400 ohms but then on the 3 pin coil I'd get 1400 ohms on the left and center pins (facing the pins) and I'd get 1400 ohms on the right and center pins but then after a couple seconds I'd get OL (open line, no continuity) on the right and center pins. Talk about excited. I verified this with a friend and he said that's not normal. Off to the parts house I go for a set of new coils and $27 later I'm drying clothes again!

  9. What about a dryer that won't stop drying until you open the door? Ot won't cycle off until you physically open the door its a kenmore 500 series dryer. Thanks!

  10. It may be 9 years old video but you helped me fix the dryer. It was weak solenoids. Got new ones from Amazon for $9 and it worked. Thanks

  11. This is a long shot but does anyone know where do I buy the thermostat from for this specific model? I see links for the thermal fuse and gas solenoids down in the description but not for the thermostat.

  12. Thanks for the video, I has helped m take this job of not completely dying my clothes on. I have one question. My clothes only partially dry. The flame comes on, but not very high and goes out a while later. Can the solenoid partially open and then close or only partially work? ? Its a mystery. Glow plug heats up, gas fires off, albeit at a low level then goes out. I have tested the temp sensor and it checks out. Pulling out my hair.

  13. Replaced igniter- lit and worked a bit, then quit heating. Restarting the light comes on solenoids don't click or light. Will order solenoids, if that doesn;t work I guess I'm buying a new one
