The SKETCHIEST Drag Strip in the United States?? (Wrecks EVERYWHERE!)

It’s no secret that Brown County Dragway is one of, if not the sketchiest 1/8 mile tracks in the United States. The track surface is full of bumps, undulations, and even..grass. Yes your read that right – there is a strip of grass going down 3/4 of the drag strip in between the lanes. Seems like a recipe for disaster..and it is. These questionable track conditions are what attract racers and fans alike as it makes for one hell of an entertaining event.

  1. I grew up literally 5 minutes from that strip it's on gatesville road right off of 135 I grew up at 135 and gatesville rd I was there every weekend with my grandma who ran the concession stand and my uncle raced a astro van my aunt raced a vega wagon and their 2 sons had matching 69 novas same engine set up identical cars marks was black and seans was blue allot of good memories there my grandma uncle and aunt are no longer with me Sean quit racing and mark and his son and daughter all race mark races pro mod in the nhra his kids brad and ashley both race super gas in the nhra im proud to say that all 3 have won walleys at the US nationals here in indianapolis……but i took my son to the last war in the woods they had here

  2. Im 63. I've owned many cars. Drag strips really? I remember racing down country roads
That's Outlaw. With 1000hp cars back in the day. My last Hoorah car in life is a 2100 plus hp 1957 Ford 300 Custom Sleeper. Her birth date is 2024. There's more that goes into a car than having the highest horsepower. I named her The Night Creeper

  3. 1/8 mile? Ghey!

I grew up at Union Grove Dragstrip in Southern Wisconsin. Every weekend I was there. 1/4 mile IS the measure, and always will be.

1/8 Mile is for effeminate, sensitive boys who can't compete with the big boys.

Grow a set and make Brown County a REAL dragstrip …..QUARTER MILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Why are u guys competing on an 8th mile strip of payment? There are plenty of quarter mile strips to go around. Why are you guys racing on a go-kart track? U guys to afraid to go fast?

  5. I'm an old 70s era drag racer and been to a few tracks. The old tracks like Browns are slowly being sold and once they're gone they're gone forever. So it makes me smile seeing that Brown County sold and the new owner is doing the right thing making it a bit safer and more importantly preserving a classic American track and past time. These small tracks are where its at. Having raced plenty and now just watch, my old home track Island Dragway (1/4 miler) in NJ is still operating and you can get right up to the cars at the staging area and line up. Its where Garlits broke the 200mph barrier back in 1964. Seeing the cars go down that track well… Theres nothing else like it !!!

  6. You know when your getting close to the track because the kids are all rolling around Bubble Gum slicks instead of toys. This is old school, I well remember our 1/4 mile track was the main highway bridge where the bridge man would stop the traffic until run was over, then let traffic pass before next race.
