17. Some vehicles I’ve found don’t even prime, they just run the pump when the motor’s running. My Pajero io I recently rebuilt the motor in was the same, pump didn’t kick on whatsoever until cranking.

36. if you see this great but this isnt early efi days. the fuel pump turns on when cranking and or running. if it turns on with out cranking something is wrong with the circuit. on Toyotas its called a open circuit relay that triggers the pump. look into it when you get a chance.

Lol I don't know if the Supra utilities the same safety system as my car does, but my fuel pump will not prime unless my foot has fully depressed the brake pedal. This system was used in a lot of Chrysler vehicles and DSM vehicles on the time frame. It was meant so that if you accidentally left the car in gear when shutting it off when you started it again you didn't lunge into stuff.
