On December 9, 2022, The Flagler County Sheriff’s Deputies saw a woman with two boys near Palm Coast Parkway and Boulder Rock Drive in Palm Coast, Florida.
They were wearing neon yellow vests and holding signs and buckets. The woman was identified as Elena Firu.
When deputies questioned Firu, she provided a fake name and later said that name belonged to her niece who died in a crash in France three days prior and she was raising money for her funeral.
Firu was arrested and faces charges of obstructing a highway, providing law enforcement with a fake name, scheme to defraud and child neglect.
The Department of Children and Families was also called and waited with the children for a relative to drive from Orlando and pick them up.

  26. As much as I hate writing this, the reality is that many people from a specific community very often scam, lie and take advantage of others. They always complain about racism towards them (which is unfortunately true very often), but they never do anything themselves to better their image. Many people throughout Europe will tell you at least one story that happened to them where they were scamed in some way (I know I could). And now it looks like they're even reaching the US.
