Louisville, Kentucky — On February 19, 2023, around 5:30 p.m. Louisville Metro Police Department responded to the area of 9100 block of Chenault Road, about calls of a mental health complaint. Police said the woman had a known history of mental health crises and was striking her car while pointing a gun at other homes. When officers arrived, they saw 52-year-old Candy Basil holding and waving a gun in the middle of the street.

Officers are seen in the bodycam footage giving continuous verbal commands for Basil to “drop the weapon.” Basil appeared to advance toward officers with the firearm. Wyatt, a 19-year veteran of LMPD, fired two rounds, striking her. Body and dashcam footage shows responding officers providing Basil with first aid and removing her weapon. Basil was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital for medical treatment. Officials said she was alert and conscious while being taken to the hospital and should survive her injuries. She was later arrested and charged with three counts of wanton endangerment of a police officer and one count of menacing.

  20. Regular viewers of Police interaction videos know the rules. Clearly show hands, over your head if possible, and NO furtive movements. In a car both hands on wheel, after you turned off car and threw keys onto pavement😂
