Valentine’s Day DUI: From Sparks to Surprising Arrest

#CrimeCamNow
On the evening of February 14, 2021, a routine patrol for a Doraville police officer turned into a bizarre and eventful encounter with a driver who left a trail of sparks as she careened down the road. What should have been a romantic Valentine’s Day celebration ended in an unexpected DUI arrest.

The officer’s attention was immediately captured by the sight of a vehicle driving on its rim, showering sparks in its wake. Quickly activating the emergency lights and siren, the officer initiated a traffic stop. However, the vehicle continued to travel for about a mile before finally pulling over.

Approaching the driver, the officer noted signs of impairment and requested her identification. However, the driver seemed unable to locate her driver’s license. Claiming to be returning from a Valentine’s Day dinner, she admitted to having consumed just a glass of wine.

Doubting her sobriety, the officer administered a field sobriety test, which the driver failed. In an unexpected turn of events, the driver suddenly exclaimed her urgent need to use the restroom. The officer, maintaining professionalism, requested her to wait for a moment. Unfortunately, the driver’s urgency got the better of her, resulting in an embarrassing mishap.

Subsequently, the driver consented to a breath test, revealing a blood alcohol concentration of 0.183—more than double the legal limit. The officer promptly placed her under arrest for driving under the influence.

However, the drama didn’t end there. During the transportation to DeKalb County Jail, the driver’s behavior escalated into screams and arguments. She accused the officer of neglecting her in favor of arrest, rather than offering assistance. Despite the tense situation, the officer remained composed and focused on his duty.
