Simple Traffic Stop Turns Very Ugly

On January 9, 2022, in Austell, Georgia, a routine traffic stop turned eventful as an Austell police officer observed a vehicle crossing over a median. The officer promptly initiated a traffic stop to address the situation.

Upon approaching the driver, the officer inquired about the incident, to which the driver initially denied having hit the median. She claimed to have merely executed a left turn. However, within moments, she admitted to having struck the median.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle lacked insurance, as determined by a check of the vehicle’s registration tag. The driver openly admitted to the absence of insurance coverage. Consequently, the officer requested her to exit the vehicle.

Initially, the driver refused to comply with the officer’s request, leading to a tense standoff. The officer firmly warned that she would be forcibly removed from the vehicle if she continued to resist, ultimately resulting in her cooperation as she stepped out of the car.

Subsequently, the driver was arrested and placed into a police vehicle. While in custody, she began loudly protesting, alleging aggressive removal from the vehicle and illegal arrest and search.

The driver faces multiple charges, including driving without insurance and registration, suspended registration, driving on roadways laned for traffic, and obstruction of law enforcement officer.
