On March 28, 2021, Brookhaven police officers swiftly responded to a disturbance call at Roc South Cuisine in Brookhaven, Ga. The call reported an intoxicated man causing trouble and harassing a group of ladies at the establishment.
Upon arrival, an officer encountered a tense situation. Another courageous individual, who happened to be present, had intervened to protect the women and requested the suspect to leave them alone. However, instead of complying, the suspect grew increasingly aggressive and expressed a desire to engage in a physical altercation.
Recognizing the need to restore order and ensure everyone’s safety, the officer issued verbal commands for the suspect to cease his belligerent behavior. Regrettably, the suspect refused to cooperate, leaving the officer with no choice but to deploy a Taser to gain control of the escalating situation.
As a result of the encounter, the suspect sustained a busted lip. The officer, acting in accordance with protocol, proceeded to interview all witnesses present and obtain their statements, which corroborated the events leading up to the altercation.
In consideration of the suspect’s well-being, the officer deemed it necessary to transport him to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. However, the suspect exhibited further resistance, demanding the presence of a supervisor. The supervisor promptly arrived on the scene and explained the situation, reassuring the suspect that medical attention would be provided.
Upon reaching the hospital, the suspect’s behavior escalated once again, engaging in loud outbursts and arguing with the officer. Recognizing the need for additional assistance, the officer called for backup. Together, they were able to de-escalate the situation and facilitate the necessary medical care for the suspect, who received stitches to mend his injured lip.
Following the incident, the suspect was charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication, both local ordinance charges. He was subsequently transported to the DeKalb County jail.
