Hotel Scam: Couple Lands in Handcuffs Over Stolen Identity Stay

#CrimeCamNow
On April 17th, 2022, Dunwoody police officers responded to a call about a couple involved in a fraudulent scheme.
The duo had cunningly used someone else’s reward account information to book and stay at the Marriott hotel in Atlanta, Georgia.
Upon arriving, officers learned that the hotel had received a call from a puzzled individual in California who denied making any reservations in Atlanta.
Initially considering a credit card mix-up, officers were stunned to discover that the couple had checked in using their debit card, but the reservation was made under someone else’s identity.
The male suspect, claiming innocence, insisted that a friend named Rikko had booked the room, but he couldn’t provide Rikko’s last name.
A call to the victim confirmed that he had no connection to the suspects, and officers gathered information for the ongoing investigation.
The officer asked the male suspect how he communicated with his friend Rikko, and the suspect showed him messages on his cell phone.
The male suspect explained that Rikko had booked a hotel room under his girlfriend’s name and another person’s name, and they checked in using his girlfriend’s name. He mentioned that they had stayed in another hotel just yesterday without any issues.
As the officers delved deeper, discrepancies emerged in the suspects’ story. The male suspect maintained his innocence, presenting text messages supposedly from Rikko.
The victim was not only concerned about the fraudulent use of his information but also wanted his rewards points reinstated.
However, the investigation revealed that the reservation was initially under the victim’s name, with the girlfriend’s name added just moments before check-in.
With the sergeant’s input, a decision was made to arrest the couple.
The male suspect kept insisting on his innocence and kept claiming he hadn’t done anything wrong. He also tried to convince the officer that his girlfriend was unaware of the situation, asking not to arrest her.
Despite pleas of innocence and attempts to shift blame, both were apprehended for disorderly conduct and transported to DeKalb County jail.

  1. I don't even think it's an employee and could very well be that the hotel website is not secure and all of the guest/rewards profiles are compromised.
If so I am sure we will see a class action lawsuit somewhere down the line.
Either way, these two 'criminal masterminds' ?. Did something illegal.

  2. It's always a friend who can't be identified that booked the room. I've never had a "friend" who was willing to pay for my room. It's just an exuse to seperate yourself.

  3. This scam is all over Instagram and telegram people who steal other people's identity will book you in fancy hotels at 50% off using somebody else's points or info. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 BTW THAT'S HIM SNITCHING ON HIS DISCOUNT PLUG AT THE END BY SHOWING THEM THE INSTAGRAM DMs. 🤣🤣🤣

  6. This is like claiming you knew nothing was "up" when you purchased two hundred dollars in food stamps for fifty bucks. Maybe you're not the scum bag selling them, but you bought them knowing full well what was going on. America is a mess these days.
