GPS Distraction Leads to DUI Arrest

#crimecamnow

On February 11, 2023 Chamblee police officer on patrol observed a vehicle that had stopped in the middle of the road for a few minutes and then resumed driving.
The officer pulled over the vehicle and asked the driver why she had stopped. She said she didn’t know where she was and was looking at her GPS.
The officer then asked the driver if she had been drinking, to which she said that she worked in a bar about six hours ago and hadn’t had anything to drink.
She was asked to step out of the vehicle to do standardized field sobriety tests, which she agreed to do.
After checking the driver’s information, the officer told her to get back in the car and was about to let her go.
However, the officer noticed an empty mini whiskey bottle that the driver had dropped and kicked under the car.
The driver started interrupting and talking over the officer nonstop.
The driver ultimately failed the sobriety tests and was arrested for driving under the influence, possession of an open container of alcoholic beverage, impeding traffic flow, and driving on roadways laned for traffic. She agreed to take a breath test at the Chamblee police station, but she continued to argue and talk over the officer, making it difficult for him to do his job.
The driver was transported to the DeKalb County Jail, where she was booked on the charges.
